The Lompoc Girls Volleyball squad did something that locals had not seen in a while - they won all 7 sets at 3 levels against a very game Santa Maria side. It was not a series of blowouts either, the Saints scored 20+ points in 5 of the 7 sets.
Not long ago the Braves were searching for just a few more points, or perhaps, a set victory. The idea of a complete sweep of a creditable team would have been almost unimaginable.
Lompoc Volleyball has a shot this season of their 1st CIF appearance in 22 years!
A short sample of the action Wednesday night. Sorry about the camera work.

Freshman
Lompoc 42, DP 6
After a scoreless 1st period, Lompoc exploded for 21 points in the 2nd period.
They tacked on 13 more in the initial 3 minutes of the 2nd half. Three players each had 2 TDs - Canley, Savage, and Manzo.
The 1st play from scrimmage of the 2nd half -
The 2nd play from scrimmage of the 2nd half -
Scoring:
1) DP started the 2nd Qtr with the ball in Lompoc territory and used some passing and penalties to set themselves up with at the Braves 7 yardline. On 3rd & 2 from the 2, Jim Gardner picked off a pass in the end zone and took it out to the 5.
Carries by Ruben Cortez & Dallas Canley picked up 5 yards. Then on 3rd & 5, QB Austin Nix hit Shemar Savage on a slant for 31 yards and a first down. Canley took the ball 59 yards for a TD on the next play, and Connor Hayes kicked the PAT. [6:45] 7-0
2) The following 3 series resulted in 3 and outs. After the 3rd one, the DP punt was returned 55 yards for a TD by #2 Manzo. The PAT failed. [2:17] 13-0
3) Lompoc again forced a 3 & out, and a high snap resulted in a shaky punt that gave the Braves the ball on the DP 44 with 56 seconds left in the half. An incomplete pass and a 3 yard loss on a SAC were followed by Nix to Savage strike for 47 more and a score. Cortez ran the the conversion in for another two. [0:11.7] 21-0
4) [See Videos above] The Braves returned th opening kickoff to their own 27 yardline. A 1st down pass call led to a 10 yard Nix scramble to the left for a first down. Then Canley went on a 63 yard jaunt down the visitors sideline for another 6 points. The kick again failed. (Blocking anyone?) [10:56] 27-0
5) Lompoc soon got the ball back after several incompletions, and Nix to Savage worked again from long distance. Hayes tacked on the point, and it was 34-0 with 9 minutes to go in the 3rd.
