The "15"

Paso Robles 45 vs. Cabrillo 6 
[The TAP-TV Game of the Week]

It was 9:09 pm - late in the 4th quarter with a running clock on Friday night, but there were two relatively happy teams on the field.  Paso Robles was up 45-6 in a game they had dominated and Cabrillo had played much better in the 2nd half - albeit against the Bearcat backups. 

That mood changed suddenly at the end of a 2nd and 10 at the Conqs 20 yardline. Paso RB Cole Manske, the 2nd half workhorse, ploughed up the middle yet again. Initially, the only remarkable thing was that Cabrillo had finally kept him in check, but he did not get up. Then training staff members from both sides sprinted onto the field and Huyck Stadium went quiet.

The stand-by ambulance was summoned onto the field, and a variety of medical personnel continued to work on Mr. Manske. According to some later reports, he had suffered multiple leg fractures (some compound). 

After about 10 minutes with the game clock seemingly frozen at 4:08, Cabrillo AD Dan Troup approached Referee James Gin and the other officials. There was a short consultation, then Gin talked with Conq Head Coach Don Willis and then PR Head Coach Rich Schmidke. Shortly after, Gin hoisted a football and signaled the end of the game. 

In the midst of the almost continuous barrage of reports of sports connected individuals misbehaving, it is re-assuring to see a group quickly & collectively simply decide to  do the right thing.

This was a dandy. Stockdale went 46yds to the Greyhound 1 on 4th down with 48 seconds left in the 4th quarter. That play set up the TD that sent the game to overtime. Then in OT2, Atascadero converted a 4th & 10, to set up the TD that won it.
