GIRLS SOCCER
at Cabrillo HSCabrillo 2, Lompoc 0
"We played well. Well, we played better than last week." was the way Cabrillo Head Coach Derrick Wong summed up the game. Granted it wasn't the finest performance the Conqs have ever had, still, for a team looking for wins, this was a big one. Starting league play with a victory is always nice, and beating your rival never hurts, either.
For the Braves it was a decent performance against a good team, but they continue to have difficulty finding the interior of the net.
Conqs : Goals (Assists) - Marissa Reyna (46th - Kelsey Sherry), Kelsey Sherry (55th - Audriana LaPorte). Saves - Kiki Miller (80min) 2.
Braves : Goals (Assists) - None. Saves - Information Not Provided.
Junior Varsity
Lompoc 2, Cabrillo 0
The Braves parlayed goals by Serenda Cervantes and Vanessa Ochoa into a win. Stout back-line play by Gabby Andrade, Brenda Cortez, and Naomi Monroy, combined with effective goaltending for the shutout. Mercedes Signorelli handled the net-minding, and although not challenged a lot, was credited with 3 saves.
BOYS SOCCER
at Lompoc HSCabrillo 3, Lompoc 1
After three goals in the first 8 minutes, things settled down considerably. Cabrillo struck, and the Braves answered almost immediately, but the Conqs struck again. Neither side did much the rest of the half. Cabrillo again netted a goal early in the second and Lompoc couldn't get the ball by Michael Lowes, who was a bit under siege late in the game. Lowes responded with a great effort, stopping, by one count, 9 shots in the second half - including a penalty kick.
Conquistadors [3-4-2]: Goals (Assists) - Adrian Diaz (3rd - Free Kick), Kyle Townsend (Adrian Diaz), Stephan Dalton (45th - Eduardo Cardenas). Saves - Michael Lowes 11.
Braves [1-6]: Goals (Assists) - Ricky Reyes (Header; 5th Chris Palacios). Saves - Omar Monay [1H] 2, Oscar Ramirez [2H] 2.
Junior Varsity
Lompoc 2, Cabrillo 2 [TIE]
Kids on both sides were unhappy with this outcome.
Braves : Goals (Assists) - Juan Esqueda (Luis De La Palma), Luis De La Palma (Brandon Nunez). Saves - Michael Yang [1H] c. 2, Jose Sotelo [2H] c. 3.
Conqs : Goals (Assists) - Isaac Sanchez, Erik Buenrostro. Saves - According to GK Edwin Casteneda "Plenty, but not enough."
