Ryan Church to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame

The Santa Barbara Foresters Hall of Fame, anyway.

Milwuakee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will be the guest speaker at the Annual Hot Stove banquet for Forester inductees Andre Miller and former Lompoc and MLB star Ryan Church. The ceremonies and dinner will be at 5 :30 p.m., Friday, 18 Jan. 2013, at Earl Warren Showgrounds.

Church earned 10 varsity letters in 3 sports (baseball, basketball, football) at Lompoc, and was a member of Dan Bodary's 1993 CIF Division 2 Baseball championship team.

Church played with the Foresters for two seasons (1998, 1999), during his University of Nevada-Reno playing days, followed by seven seasons in the major leagues. At Reno Church batted .363 as a junior before tearing it up as a senior for the 38-19 Wolfpack, hitting .382 with 15 doubles, 14 home runs and 62 RBIs in 55 games.

At the conclusion of the season (Nov. 2007) Church was traded to the New York Mets, where he sustained concussions in spring training and during a game on May 20th. He was subsequently traded (10 July 2009) to the Atlanta Braves, before signing as a free agent with  the Pittsburgh Pirates. On 31 July 2010, he was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a 5 player trade..

Michaela Paige

Cabrillo grad and current CSU-B Roadrunner, Michaela Paige, competed in a pair of meets recently. On 4 Jan 2013, in a three team contest (San Jose St, Northern Colorado) at CSU-Bakersfield, she won the Women's 200 Meter Freestyle in a time of 1:51.44, and was 2nd (5:07.74) in the Women's 500 Meter Freestyle. Both times were a bit off her personal bests, but were still fast.

The NEXT day (5 January), CSU-B hosted Fresno St and UNLV. Jessica Heim (UNLV) nipped Paige at the wall by 0.24 seconds in the 200 Fly, Paige posting a time of 2:08.46. Heim also got her in the 500 Free, though Michaela swam a very respectable 5:07.88. She also finished 4th in the 400M IM (4:39.79).

The freshman is already making waves as she is now atop the school record book in 3 different events - 500 Free, 200 Butterfly, and 800 Free Relay. She is also 3rd all-time in the 200 Free. In 25 individual races, she has 10 wins, 4 2nds, 2 3rds, and a 4th. In relay action, she has a 2nd in the 200M Free; a win, 2 2nds, a 3rd, and a 12th in the 400 Free; and a 13th in the 800 Free. Both the 12th and the 13th, however, are the fastest times in those events this season by the Roadrunners, being posted at large meets. The team is currently 5-3, 2-1 in conference.
