Hope You Have a Marvelous Thanksgiving !!!
#40 Jorge Lucatero was all smiles after helping stifle the SaMo Vikings offense last Friday. |
The Braves face their toughest opponent of the season on Friday - the Chaminade Eagles from West Hills. One local football aficionado, Bobby Kennedy has repeatedly stated "I think they can win". Bobby knows his stuff & LLR certainly hopes he's right. Unless St. Francis knocks off Serra, the final will be hosted by the Cavaliers.
*** Update***
Well, at the start of the season many folks thought that the Braves run would end in the Semifinals - those folks were right. It took Lompoc far too long to unpack the defense, and the offense was sluggish early against the big, strong, fast, and talented Eagles. Lompoc again drew comment for a large rooting contingent on the road, and the crowd saw the Braves play hard for 4 quarters, but sometimes effort just isn't enough. As James Washington's daddy says - "Sometimes talent just plays out."
The Braves went 3 & out on their 1st two possessions, while Chaminade repeatedly converted on 3rd & long situations to score the 1st three times they had the ball. It was quickly 14-0, 21-0 after 1 period, and, following a punt return late in the 2nd, 42-7 at the half. Lompoc scored on a 1 yard Derrick Portis TD to culminate a loooong drive in the 2nd, and a short run by A.J Florez after the main break. There was a running clock the entire 2nd half.
Although it was a disappointing finish, it was a GREAT season. The kids, coaches, fans , and everyone involved has good reason to celebrate another outstanding effort by a tremendous team, and a wonderful group of kids.
There were 6 area squads trying to get to the finals this week. Lompoc, Bishop Diego (Santa Barbara), and Oak Park (Ventura County) lost; Mission Prep (SLO) & Nordhoff (Ventura County) won. Coast Union (Cambria, SLO County) plays on Saturday.
