ORNELAS TO THIRD BASE

Hunt also reports that BEN ORNELAS (pictured above) is in the running for the third base job at Lewis-Clark State, the NAIA champions. This is a change for Ben. He played center field at Cypress College the past two years. Also on the team, in fact named an NAIA pre-season All-American, is pitcher MATT FITTS. Fitts is the son of 1982 Lompoc High grad Matt Fitts. The link is former Lompocan GUS KNICKREHM, who is assistant to head coach Ed Cheff. Hunt also reports the news which appeared here months ago, that Ornelas’ roommate, ISAAC SIMMONS, has decided to retire from baseball to concentrate on academics.
