Cabrillo volleyball stalwart Kaylee Long was named the Athlete of the week at Monday's luncheon.

Cabrillo went 1-4, beating St Joseph 10-6, and losing to Atascadero (10-6), Santa Ynez in a close one (5-3), and by 5-6 points to both Mt Whitney [Visalia] & Brea Olinda.


St. Joseph (2-9 overall) went 1-4. The Knights beat Morro Bay 14-5 and lost to Walnut Creek Las Lomas (15-4), San Marcos (10-6), LPL rival Cabrillo (10-6) and Nipomo (9-8 in overtime).

St Joseph: Scoring - Andy Boniface 10 goals. Sean McDonald & Vinnie Villalpando also were major contributers. Saves - goal keepers Tyler Stetson (32) and Nolan Kruse (28).

Santa Ynez No other info known.

Cabrillo Alumni Water Polo

Cabrillo High School will host an alumni water polo match on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the school’s on-campus pool. The evening will start at 6 p.m. with a special ceremony honoring 1995 graduate Derek Argel, who was killed while serving his country in Iraq. A plaque will be dedicated in his memory on the pool deck.

The alumni will then play an odd-even match at 6:30 p.m., featuring players who graduated in odd years taking on players from the even years. And at 7 p.m., the current varsity team will then play an alumni team.

Cabrillo, Templeton, Morro Bay, and St Joseph all competed in the small schools division. Cabrillo’s boys varsity, junior varsity and frosh /soph squads all won their races, and the Templeton varsity girls won theirs.

Low Speed Autocross
Hancock College’s Lompoc Valley Center

Vapor Trail Vettes is hosting a Low Speed Autocross Saturday, Oct. 31 at the LVC, 1 Hancock Dr., Lompoc. Race day begins at 8 a.m. with registration, check-ins and tech inspections. There is a mandatory drivers meeting at 9:15 a.m. and the first car heads out at 9:30 a.m.

Early registration is $40 for NCCC members and $45 for non-NCCC members if received before Oct. 28. After Oct. 28, registration is $50 for NCCC members and $55 for non-NCCC entrants. Registration forms can also be downloaded from the Internet at http://www.vaportrailvettes.com/.

On a recent radio talk show, NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew AKA "Mo-Jo", was asked who his favorite running back was when he was growing up. The UCLA grad, and Bay Area native responded -

"Napolean Kaufman".

Who else could it be, right ? Doesn't seem like it, but that 1990 CIF Championship is now 19 years ago.
