Orcutt 11, Lompoc 7The Lompoc Braves have the LPL Bye on Tuesday, but have filled the gap with a non-league opponent. Sorta ... The Orcutt Academy Spartans normally use the courts at Hancock College for their home matches, and tennis contests are usually split - the Varsity at one school site, and the JV at the other due to the lack of courts.
This one is split a bit differently, the Braves host both match-ups. The Varsity match on Wednesday, and Monday's JV tilt at the Dave Bickmore Courts. It was a tight contest through most of the session, but the Spartans managed to pull away at the end.
The initial round went 4-2 to the Spartans, while the second was tied 3-3. In both instances, the OA advantage in games was only 25-24. Round 3 was another 4-2 split, but it was much closer than that. The round was tied 2-2 with the last two matches on the court, and they were both late ties.
If Lompoc had taken both sets by the requisite two games, the score would have been tied 9-9 (68-68), and would have precipitated the extremely rare 'Rotation Tie-Breakers'. Alas, it was not to be - Orcutt took 4 of the next 5 games to lock up the win. Does demonstrate how a few points here and there can make a huge difference. On the plus side, all the Lompoc girls scored at least one point.
One further note, Lompoc was without JV headman, Jim Steffey. The big guy was out sick, so Varsity Head Coach Marjie Ledgerwood capably filled in. Hope you get well soon, Coach !!

After a fairly easy time on the Morro Bay course last Thursday, the Braves returned to a tough golf course on Monday. Although the scores were up a bit, Head Coach Tom Garrard was happy with the result, as the squad was much improved from their outing two weeks ago at the comparable La Purisima course. Both alternates also performed well this week.
