Cabrillo simply wore out the Pirates. Santa Ynez started strong, but their shooting percentage declined the further they got into the 'Conq Aerobics' program. Their problems were exacerbated by the loss of Chase Sanchez for much of the second half. The Pirate point guard, who had just returned to action after recovering from a Grade 2 concussion suffered against Cabrillo on Dec. 20th, had severe leg cramps.
Conqs [16-5,7-0]: Chad Brodhead 32 (16 ea. half) (4x3); Josh Harris 20 (13 3Q); Aaron Abayari 20; Eli Gleffe 6; Manuel Medina 4; Floyd Stern 2; Florencio Rodriguez 2; Carlos Gonzales 1, Bryce Moses 1.

The Eagles are good, very good. They don't have an 'All-Existence' player of exceptional size or prodigious athletic talent, but they do have a nice blend of really good athletes, good coaching, intelligence, experience, and a tremendous work ethic. They are currently rated by MaxPreps as the #4 team in CIF-SS Div 4AA.
Eagles [16-2,6-0]: Mari Stewart 21, 17 rbds; Paige O’Sullivan 14, 5 assts.
Braves [10-10,3-4]: Rylee Sager 11, 12 rbds, 7 stls; Cheyenne Marmalejo 8, 6 rbds.

If Lompoc could shoot, this could have been an interesting game. It might also have helped if the girls had listened to Coach Nick Jensen's repeated admonition to 'take it all the way to the basket'. The Braves shot, and missed, a lot of 2-3 foot jumpers. The Eagles went to the hoop and drew fouls - ending up with a 19-6 advantage in fouls called. A very informal post-game poll failed to find anyone who could recall the Braves even attempting a lay-up.
Despite their propensity for poor shooting and proclivity for the 18" 'fall-away J' the Brave were in this one - trailing 30-26 after 3 periods of play.
