Nipomo at Lompoc [Fr 3:30, JV 5pm, V 6:30]

Lompoc 74Nipomo 59
[Lom 11,21,23,19 - 74  Nip 12,16,19,12 - 59]

Lompoc controlled the game in the early going, taking a 6-0 lead and at the 4:24 mark the were still up 9-4. Then they forgot how to score. Despite getting rebounds, steals, turnovers, etc., they couldn't get the ball to drop. They missed wide open jumpers and fast-break lay-ups. The result was that with 4 seconds left, the Titans hit a bucket to take the lead 12-11.

That seemed to form the pace for much of the rest of the game. Lompoc would push out to a sizable margin and then stagnate. The Braves led by 1 at the 6 minute mark of the 2nd, 2 minutes later were up 10, and 2 minutes later were up by just 3.

With 6:45 remaining in the 3rd the differential was 0, as Nipomo pulled even. Two minutes later, it was Braves by 9. This time it stuck. Although, the Titans made occasional inroads, Lompoc was able to slowly expand their advantage through the back half of the 3rd & the entire 4th.

Lompoc 61Nipomo 28
[Lom 10,12,16,23 - 61 Nip 5,6,10,7 - 28]

It was physical. Lompoc collected 15 personal fouls - in the second half. Although many of them were reach-in fouls, they Braves sent Nipomo to the charity stripe 27 times (11-27). The Titans were by no means laggard in regard to fouls. Their numbers were much lower but tended to  be of the collision variety. It is quite possible that the rematch up north could get a bit heated.

Ultimately, the Titans had no answer to the steady drip of buckets from Treyvon Ross and Rauly Yanez, opportune treys by Darren Munoz and Kameron Davis, or the shot-blocking potential & rebounding of Ben Odam.

Filip Krajic missed the game with an injured left wrist, whether it is broken or sprained had not been determined at game time. He will likely miss the next few contests in either case.

Nipomo 52Lompoc 47
[Lom 6,14,10,17 - 47 Nip 16,17,4,15 - 52]

After a slow start, Lompoc put together a surge in the 3rd & 4th periods, clawing back to with-in a point (41-40) with 2:25 remaining. The comeback bus ran out of gas at that point, however.

Braves : Team - FT (14-25). D'Artagnan Canley 11 [1-1FT], Sincere Bowen 0 [0-2 FT], Glenn Francisco 2, Ray 0, Niko Sapp 6 [2-6], Jake Wong, Jalin Joner, Nick Vong.

Templeton 54Cabrillo 46
[Tem 11,14,7,22 - 54  Cab 7,8,15,16 - 46]

After a slow 1st half, Cabrillo made it interesting.  The Conqs trailed by 4 at the end of the first and by 10 at halftime, but cut the margin to just 2 following a powerful 15 point 3rd period. Despite surpassing that total in the the 4th, they fell when Templeton re-asserted control with a monster 22 points effort in the final period.

Cabrillo was without their usual starting PG, Gaby Baumgardner, who was still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained near the end of the Lompoc game.

[Lom 12,15,13,12 - 52  Nip 6,4,13,6 - 29]
The Nipomo Titans finally got to play at home this season, but they didn't get to enjoy it much. The Braves pressed Nipomo all night and the 'bigs' played, well, big.

Nay Brown & Cheyenne Marmalejo dominated in the paint, especially on the offensive side. The pair accounted for 30 points, and 24 rebounds (13 on offense). They also drew a mess of fouls, taking 18 free throws.

Braves [8-7, 1-1]: Team - 2PT 34% (16-47), 3PT 33% (3-9), FT 37% (11-30); 33 rebounds (17 Offensive), 15 assists, 21 steals, 1 block, 19 turnovers.

The Braves pretty much led throughout, but couldn't shake the Titans until the 4th quarter. Sophomore Bella Almanza had her usual outstanding offensive performance & frosh Karina Espinosa was named "Player of the Game" by the staff.

Lompoc was able to take advantage on the interior, although they didn't shoot particularly well, in part due Titan fouling. The Braves weren't laggard in that department either - picking up 23 themselves.

Girls Soccer

The girls soccer squads from Sunny Hills HS in Fullerton, traveled north to the valley to take on both local schools - Lompoc on Friday and Cabrillo on Saturday.

The visiting Lancers dominated all 4 games, completely controlling the midfield and the ball.

Sunny Hills Hoad Coach Jeff Gordon wanted to let everyone know how much they appreciated both the willingness of the schools to take the games and the hospitality of the community. LLR appreciates the assistance of the SH contingent over the weekend.
