Battle of the Blues [8 oct 2014]

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Morro Bay Water Polo is a family affair for the Krulls - Dina (AKA Mom) keeps the stats, Jack is the varsity goaltender, and Levi is on the JV.

And while we're on the subject of Morro Bay, 'Czech' out this piece on Bety

Hermanova, an exchange student from Prague.

Morro Bay at Lompoc [CoLAC]

It was a Goaltender kind of day at the City of Lompoc Aquatic Center - the Pirates' Jack Krull controlled the action in the varsity game, and Jamal Whitaker ruled the nets for the Lompoc JV.

The Lompoc offense controlled the game early. Really, they did. They took more shots (1Q: 10 shots, 6 on goal-all saved; MB had 3 shots), more shots on goal, and were much more active than the Pirate attack.

The only problem was they had a very difficult time getting the ball past the guy between the pipes - Goalkeeper Jack Krull.  Krull has been a stalwart for the past several years, and he provided the margin on Wednesday.

Pirates [7-8, 2-0]: Goals - Travis Chirman 4, Taylor Freeh 3, Joseph Ramos, Lucas Jackovich, Ryan Kitzman.  Goalkeeping - Jack Krull 13 (6/1/4/2) saves,

Braves [0-2]: Goals - Javier Hernandez 2, Nick Robles, Andrew Waite, Bryce Mindoro. Goalkeeping - Phoenix Herrigel 9 saves.

Austin Nixa was most of the JV Braves offense

Braves : Goals - Austin Nixa 7, C. Morales 2, J. Triana 2. Goalkeeping - Jamal Whitaker (1-3Q) 9 saves, 2 field blocks, steal; Niles Mendes (4Q) 3 saves.

Pirates : Goals - M. Freeh 2, E. Solu, B. Green. Goaltending - H. Burrus (to 2:17 2Q) 6 saves; 1A 3 saves.

In addition to his fine work on the defensive end, Whitaker also keyed the offense with excellent outlet passing to start the offense -
