Alumni - College Football

Allan Hancock

Several local players made significant contributions to the Bulldogs 26-24 road victory over #10 (#4 SoCal) Chaffey on Saturday, including -

Jose Morales (LHS): Hit a 45-yard field goal to put AHC up 26-17 at the 4:07 mark after Logan Sprouse (Atas) 2nd pick of the game. He had also earlier converted a 42-yard field goal attempt to cap a seven play, 54-yard drive. A freshman, Morales is 6-6 on FG attempts this season.

Rafael Arellano (LHS): After Michael Robert fumbled a Morales kick-off, Arellano recovered the ball on the Chaffey 10-yard line.

Willie Iribarren (LHS) [So]: Led the Bulldogs with 15 tackles (1 TFL) from his linebacker spot and had a one pass breakup.

NextSaturday, Bakersfield vs Hancock at Righetti High School (4 p.m.) in their National Northern League opener. It will be Youth Football Day and all children who wear their football uniforms receive free admission.

Four Year Schools

Lavon Coleman (LHS/Univ. of Washington): The Huskies were trailing after halftime when Coleman was inserted into the game. It helped spark a turn-around that helped Head Coach [] become the 1st U-Dub boss to win his initial 4 games since 1908. A redshirt freshman, Lavon is the leading rusher on the team with 286 net yards on 65 attempts - he also has 3 receptions.

Zac Powell (LHS/Cal Poly SLO): Zac, a junior, is once again the long-snapper for the Mustangs. He has played in all 3 games and even collected a pair of tackles. Sophomore linebacker Colton Concellos is mostly getting Special Teams work with the 2-1 Univ. of Nevada Wolfpack.

Another ST guy is placekicker & CHS grad Steven Dalton, was a freshman on the roster for the 3-1 Univ. of Wyoming Cowboys. But he starter, senior Stuart Williams, just earned Mountain West ST Player of the Week honors, so Dalton may be headed for redshirt/greyshirt.

At Idaho State, Nikko Hayes has seen limited action (3 tackles) as a redshirt frosh DB for the Bengals. Fellow LHS alum Nick Brundy is in his senior season as a TE for Simon Fraser University.

Also Justice Clegg (LHS) is in his 2nd year as the O-Line & Strength and Conditioning Coach at Graceland University in Iowa. In an interesting twist, the Yellowjackets lost 34-20 on Saturday to MidAmerican Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.

The twist? The MNU Pioneers, now 2-0, have two senior Lompoc area/AHC matriculates on the OL - Jose Carrillo-Ayala & Andrew Sexton-Chavoya (CHS). Cabrillo's David Kulp, meanwhile , is an OLiner for the Lumberjacks of Humbolt St. Univ. in northern California.
