#3 Lexie Barbosa  (Earlier this Season)

The Braves collected their second win of the season - and didn't need to go 5 sets to do it.

Head Coach Aaron Batula relayed the following -

"We mixed up our whole lineup tonight, and played everyone (including some people in new positions).

Stat Leaders - Christiana Landthaler 4 kills, Lexie Barbosa 15 assists and 9 service aces, Sam Croker 8 digs

And....Becca Davis at Outside Hitter (my 5'0" Libero who can swing like a 6'2" college hitter) got 3 kills including one out of the backrow on a Pipe set.   Really got the team and our parents fired up in the 3rd set.

Our overall record is 2-10, and 1-5 in the LPL.   We start the 2nd half of the league season next tuesday hosting Templeton at home.  After so many close 5 set matches, we are looking to challenge everybody in the 2nd half."

Orcutt Academy falls to 3-10.

Fallon Wynne kept waiting for the ball that never came.

Nipomo 3, Cabrillo 0
[25-9, 27-25, 25-15]

Except for a nice stretch in the back half of game 2, Cabrillo was unable to do much Thursday evening. Down 12-3, they started to get into rhythm offensively and climbed back into the game. A small service run by Madison McNamee forced a time out with the Conqs down 19-13, but she, and a resurgent offense kept right on going - leading to another TO after 4 more points.

Nipomo finally broke the string, but gave the serve right back. A few points later and Cabrillo was UP 21-20. The teams seesaw-ed the rest of the way. Nipomo to a 24-22 advantage, Cabrillo answering with 3 in a row to go up 25-24, but the Titans rolled off the final 3 scores of the set to win 27-25.

After the match, a very frustrated Cabrillo Head Coach Jim Hilliard was succint - "If you can't pass, you can't hit. If you can't hit, you can't win." He was particulary upset with the inabilty to get the ball to Fallon Wynne much at all - "We've got an All-League hitter, and we didn't get the ball to her."

It was particularly galling because passing has been one of the team strengths lately, as Hilliard remarked to the the JV Coach - "If you had seen us at practice yesterday, you would have thought we were the Olympic Team."

The Titans were led again by an outstanding effort by Taylor Nevitt. Nipomo's David Cassidy thought his whole team played well, but noted the 4 block performance of sophomore Gwen Menane, stating - "She has improved a lot recently. She's reading the setters well, and adjusting."

Conquistadores: Kyler Heitman 5 kills, block, ace; Fallon Wynne 2 kills, 2 aces, block; Kate Middleton 3 kills; Madison McNamee 3 aces (also had 8 consecutive service points in Game 2).

Titans : Megan Peneflor 24 assists, 4 aces, kill; Sam Baker 13 kills, 11 digs, 3 aces, block; Taylor Nevitt 8 kill, 11 digs, 7 aces; Gwen Menane 5 kills, 4 blocks.
