Cabrillo Water Polo Sinks Pirates (28 Sep 2016)

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

To you these may be pictures of your average construction site, but to Morro Bay Aquatics aficionados this is a thing of beauty.

In November 2014, SLO Coastal Unified School District voters approved $177 million in bonds for capitol improvements (Measure D).

Among other plans, approximately $13 million was allocated for on-campus  at SLO and Morro Bay High Schools.

Previously, the schools have used facilities at Sinshimer Park (SLO), Cuesta College (MB), and a pool halfway to Cambria.

It was decided to begin with Morro Bay, since the pool at Cuesta was slated for extensive renovations in 2016. Ground-breaking took place in May 2016.

The $4.7 million (estimated construction cost) facility will feature a 25-yard-by-35-meter swimming pool with 16 lanes, covered bleachers, exterior overhead lights, and an LED scoreboard. The 3,815-square-foot support building has men’s and women’s locker rooms, office space, team meeting rooms, ample storage and a concessions kiosk. It will be open to the public.
