Duffy Fires Shutout
DANNY DUFFY once again lived up to his hype Friday night as he sat down the Frederick Keys on three hits and no runs over 6 1/3 innings in a Carolina League game.
The Kansas City Royals prospect struck out nine and walked nobody as his Wilmington Blue Rocks prevailed 3-0.
Duffy allowed only three harmless singles and did not allow a runner past first base as he recorded his fourth victory in five decisions and lowered his earned run average to 3.38. His strikeout to walk ratio is now 33-9.
Duffy retired the side in order in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. In the second and sixth he allowed a two-out single. In the seventh he gave up a one-out single before being lifted for a reliever.
The scintillating performance comes after two outings which statistically were not up to the Duffy standard. In two games both against Winston-Salem Duffy gave up eight earned runs in 10 total innings while striking out just five and walking six.
Tonight showed that Duffy is back in a big way.
The Keys are a Baltimore Oriole affiliate while Winston-Salem is with the Chicago White Sox. The Carolina League is Class A-advanced league.
