The LOMPOC 5-Team Meet
At River Park (3 mile course)
There were three races run Wednesday afternoon - a boys JV race, a girls all levels race, and the boys varsity competition. Arroyo Grande’s runners won their respective boys or girls races at the Lompoc Meet, each maintaing five runners at the front of the pack for impressive wins over traditional power San Marcos.

Individuals
Quetta Peinado, a St. Joseph junior, cruised to the girls race win with a time of 18:45, while her teammate, freshman Bridget Adam, took 2nd (19:33). Then came the AG phalanx. Led by a freshman and separated by only two seconds, they finished, in order - Lupita Leon (3rd, 19:47), Hannah Stevens (fourth, 19:47), McKenzie Goldman (fifth, 19:48), Emily Johnston (sixth, 19:48) and Katie Lewis (seventh, 19:49).
Freshman Allie Kraynyk, San Marcos (8th), Ashley Fabing, Lompoc (10th), & Jasmine Ruvalcaba, Pioneer Valley (35th) were top finishers for their respective schools.
Leon, was racing in her second high school cross country race, although she ran cross country at Paulding Middle School in Arroyo Grande. In her HS debut, she finished as the Eagles’ third runner, behind Stevens and Johnson.
The Eagles made it look easy, even though they were not asked to push themselves. Arroyo Grande coach Sean Ricketts, told his charges not to sprint toward the finish line, wanting to save them for an upcoming meet at Stanford.

Individuals
Evan Bradford, San Marcos ran a quick 16:28, but had hoped to go faster. He was, however pleased with the win after finishing 2nd last year. Sophomore Hayes Dunn of St. Joseph was second [16:43], and Hugo Gutierrez paced the AG boys [third,16:46].
The rest of the Eagles lead pack were Cullen Cali (4th, 16:47), Dan Smith (8th, 16:54), Trevor Cowan (11th, 17:02) and Sean Pringle (13th, 17:03). Juan Sanchez (5th place) and Steven Youngblood (10th) both cracked the top 10 for Pioneer Valley, while Eduardo Morales set the standard for the host Braves with a seventh place finish.
Dunn, a relative running novice, was the Knights’ number two tennis singles player in 2008 and took up distance running in track last year to stay in shape for cross country.
