Day 2: Saturday, 5 January 2013

The CIF-SS Div. 3 Arroyo Grande girls won their own tournament for the first time in five years by topping the Div. 2 Panthers. The Eagles went 5-0 and were led by 3 seniors - Tournament MVP Alexis Elias (8 goals in 3 games on Sat.), 1st Team GK Hannah Wadlow (28 saves in 3 Sat. games, 45 in the tournament), and 1st Team defender Delaney Ainsworth.

Championship: Arroyo Grande 7, Newbury Park 4
AG struck just 14 seconds into the game on an Elias five-meter penalty shot. The Eagles then packed the zone defensively, trying to force Newbury Park into taking bad shots that would feed the counter-attack.

It worked. Wardlow hit Popovich and Elias with long outlet throws to push the lead to 4-0, before Elise Begg finally got the Panthers on the board with 1:22 left in the 2nd period. Newbury Park never got closer then 3 goals the rest of the way.
