GIRLS SOCCER

at La Serna 1, Cabrillo 0
Cabrillo Head Coach Derrick Wong has been on a mission. After losing in the CIF Division 5 Semifinals last season, he wanted to make sure his team was exposed to as many of the top teams in their division as possible - before they got to the playoffs.

That has required several road trips to Orange County costing the Conqs in the won/loss columns, they are 0-3-4 in the OC, but Wong's view is that you get better by playing good teams not by beating patsies.

In the latest incarnation of the Cabrillo road show, the Conqs played La Serna - the team that bounced them in that semi a year ago and currently ranked #2 in the division. Cabrillo surrendered an early goal, but battled the rest of the way.

Several equalizer attempts cleared the crossbar. Kelsey Sherry's miss (16th) came courtesy of a collision at the top of the box that injured her knee. She rode the pine the rest of the game as a precaution. Brianna Farley saw two 40+ yard penalty kicks skim over the net. The Conqs also received good efforts from Jamie Miller and Emma Fienga.

Conqs [4-5-4,2-0 LPL]: Goals/Assists - None.
Lancers [9-2-3]: Goal - Miranda Yzabal (3rd, long ball, hit top left). GK Penny Roman.

Channel Islands 4, Bishop Diego 1
It was not a good day for area teams to play the Lancers, as BD took on a different set. The Cards managed tie the game early, but gave up a goal just before halftime and 2 after it. "Emergency GK" Jordan Price was one of several players filling in for the sick and injured.
