NSBCART

Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table again gathered on Monday at Giovanni's to honor athletes from around the area. The Pizza was much appreciated by the horde of locusts mass of hungry teens.

Athletes of the Week:

Female Athlete of the Week
Sierra Hohimer, Cabrillo High, Tennis (#1 Singles)

Sierra went 6-0 and won the set of the week.

She trailed Santa Ynez’s #2 singles, Nicole Bastanchury, 0-3 in the final set of last Thursday’s LPL girls tennis match at Santa Ynez. She roared back, taking the next six games to win the set 6-3 and win the match 10-8 for the Conqs. The victory put Cabrillo in sole possession of second place in the LPL.

Hohimer, a junior, is very talented, polite, humble, somewhat shy, and was quite surprised to win the award.

Some old-timers like me may remember her uncle, Donnie Hohimer, a running back for Mike Warren at LHS in the 70's. He was not shy in HS if you were wondering.

Male Athlete of the Week
CJ Cole, St. Joseph, Football (Slotback/Running Back)

CJ rushed for 305 yards and two touchdowns (79 & 95 yards). He also scored on a 36-yard pass to open the scoring as the Knights romped at Pioneer Valley 33-0 last Friday night.

The Knights [5-3,2-0 LPL] posted their third straight shutout and have a BYE before hosting Lompoc on Friday night, Oct. 28.

Presenters and Honorees:
LOMPOC HIGH SCHOOL

"I brought four of the best athletes from the standpoint of all-around athletics. They're juniors, but if you go to any varsity sport at Lompoc High, chances are that one of these four are going to be in that arena."

He also noted that the LPL Final would be held at the Village Country Club and implored the golfers present - "Please don't hit my house!"

Girls Golf

LHS GG: Danielle Morgan, Kendal Martin
Kendal Martin (#1) and Danielle Morgan (#2) are not just the top golfers on the Lompoc squad.

       Woyak, Jenkins, Stewart

“Sierra is our No. 1 singles player and a big reason why we’re 12-1 in league. We play on the road twice this week, at Lompoc on Tuesday and at Orcutt Academy on Thursday. Orcutt is the only team to beat us this season so that match will be a championship showdown.”

“We’re a young team but the girls are a pleasure to watch,” said Love. "Megan is our middle blocker, Alyssa is an outside hitter and Ana is a defensive specialist who plays all over the floor.”

The volleyball team also faces Lompoc and Orcutt Academy this week.

It has been a tough rebuilding year for the Conqs, but these three have consistently worked hard and been productive.

Alyssa Stewart (11), is an Outside Hitter and also a Forward on the Basketball team. Middle Blocker Erin Jenkins (11), is also a basketball Forward and on the Track & Field team. Anna Woyak (9) is a Defensive Specialist for the team.

Four Spartan players made the LPL Individual Final tourney at VCC.

"Ben Luna-Vasquez, sophomore, running back/linebacker who was in on 25 tackles in last week. He and our other linebacker, Alex Andrade, have the the majority of tackles this season. They've been really solid”

The Spartans have a bye this week before hosting Villanova Prep in a Condor League game at Santa Maria High in two weeks.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Athletic DirectorPete Fortier

Girls Volleyball
VCA GVB:  Ana Rohde, Alisa Norholm

Fortier presented Alisa Norholm (Sr) and Ana Rohde (Jr).

Football

Tobin Sanders (Sr), defensive end
Dominic Porpilga (Jr), offensive guard
"On the football side - This one hurts.
We went to Coast Union, had to win the game, but we lost. We scored on the first drive and the last drive, it was the middle drives that didn't quite get there."

"Unless we win against the #1 team (Cuyama) this week, it looks like the playoffs are going to be out of the question."

“We’re making our way through the meaty part of our league." They lost 33-7 last week at Atascadero.
