at the COLACMorro Bay 26, Lompoc 6
The Lompoc Braves water polo team hit the pool for its first varsity match in some 18 months. The pool hit back. Well, not the pool precisely, but the Morro Bay Pirates who may have been looking to exact some revenge for a series of recent losses to various Lompoc Valley teams.
Since the team was reborn about a month ago, Lompoc has only has only one game. A contest last Thursday against the Cabrillo JV (lost 18-14), but this was the initial action versus a varsity unit. It was also only the second water polo contest for most of the squad, half of whom are freshmen. It wasn't pretty, such things usually aren't, but it was a start. In any event, "Welcome Back" guys.
Morro Bay scored early & often, until a 4th quarter injunction from their coaches prohibited shooting the ball. The Pirates scored repeatedly on break-aways and counters, often having 3-1 or even 4-1 advantages against the Lompoc goalies. Both teams substituted generously, with almost everybody getting some playing time.
