So Close and Yet ... [15 Oct] (Preliminary)

Tuesday, 15 October 2013

The Dave Bickmore Courts at Lompoc High School are located behind and perhaps 100 yards away from the gym portion of Paisola Pavilion. Yet the two venues saw quite different results Tuesday afternoon.

Girls Tennis

Not much drama in this session of LPL Tennis, the closest match was 11-7.

Morro Bay's Claire Vogel (R) was once selected by the NSBCART media types as "Having the name most likely to be in a Hitchcock film".

She collaborated with Katrina Siems to take a point off the Braves at #2 Doubles.

Templeton at Lompoc

Brittany Bolusan elevates for a kill attempt.
Templeton 3, Lompoc 1
[25-15, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15]

The Braves have been real close several times this year, and had some opportunities to make this much closer than it turned out.

Lompoc was competitive, but inconsistent. Templeton was consistent and balanced. For example the Eagles committed 7 errors on 94 serve attempts - Lompoc had 4 consecutive errors by 4 different servers near the start of Game 4. Balance ? Check the stats.

Templeton was also able to make big digs when it counted, getting credit for half a dozen 'pancake' digs on the night.

Eagles [11-1, 6-1]: Mari Stewart 9 kills, 19 service rcptns, 6 digs; Lauren Ralston 9 kills; Marissa Torres 27 digs, 16 service rcptns.; Julie Cates 12 service rcptns, 8 digs, 7 aces, 5 kills; Josi Kelly 18 assists; Cecilia Mazzarotto 15 assists; Lucy Portillo 6 digs, 5 kills; Elsa Strysko 5 kills.

Lompoc [2-11, 1-6]: Brittany Bolusan 11 kills, two aces; Chyanne Thomas 9 kills, six aces. Lexi Barbosa 25 assists, 3 aces.

Lompoc didn't play poorly, but didn't really play well either. Head Coach Ramona Thomas summed it up -  "We were pretty mediocre in all phases of the game."
