Cabrillo;s Baylee Gregory Kicked It into Overdrive on Monday |
GIRLS GOLF
Los Padres League
Santa Ynez vs Cabrillo
at the Alisal River Course (Front 9, Par 36)
Varsity
Cabrillo 268, Santa Ynez 281
The Pirates shot a 281, just 1 shot back from their tournament winning score on Thursday, but the Conquistadors dropped a remarkable 14 strokes to surge to the LPL lead.
The Conq charge was led by Baylee Gregory who accounted for half that improvement. Brianna Gonzales (54) also carded a very good round, while Gracie Church (54) and Alex Sczudlo (55) led the Pirates.
The race for the LPL team title appears set to go down to the wire. "Each team still has one more match and one last league team tournament so anything is still possible." - according to Santa Ynez Head Coach Ashley Coelho.
Both squads will be favored in those dual matches next week (Cabrillo vs Lompoc, Santa Ynez vs Morro Bay). If they do win on Monday (10 Oct.), here are the likely scenarios for LPL Tourney #3 at Rancho Maria Golf Course on Thursday (13 Oct).
1- Cabrillo wins the tourney. Cabrillo --> Los Padres League Champions
2- SY wins the tourney, Cabrillo finishes 3rd. SY --> LPL Team Champs
3- SY wins the tourney, Cabrillo finishes 2nd = tie.
==> A hole by hole, 6 vs 6, playoff until there is no tie.
Note: The LPL individual Tournament venue has changed, it will now be hosted by Cabrillo at the Village Country Club instead of Black Lake Golf Course.
