Nipomo prevailed in a match for sole possession of 2nd place in the LPL. The Titans were able to score on a consistent basis, while a tight defense kept the Conqs in check.

Cabrillo attempted to keep Titan Jacob Billinger from running wild, and he was somewhat restrained (5 goals), but he got a little help from his friends and the visitors could not keep pace.

Lompoc vs Santa Ynez*

   at the Lompoc Aquatic Center

Varsity
Santa Ynez 21, Lompoc 4
[SY: 6,7,3,5-21  L: 0,1,1,2-4]

Lompoc was clearly outmatched on Wednesday afternoon. Numerous turnovers led to equally abundant jail break attacks on goal. Two-on-one situations were frequent, and larger numbers were not rare. So in a game where the Braves gave up 21 goals, who was the best player in the water?

The Lompoc Goalie Phoenix Herrigel. One impartial observer, a former water polo coach at Westlake HS, called it "the finest goalkeeping I've seen all year. Just remarkable. He must have had 15 saves - at least!" Even when it wasn't a break-away, nearly every shot the Pirates took was on target and from inside the 2-meter line.

Meanwhile, Gabe Clear and Keller Haws led a swarming defense that kept the Braves from doing much of anything. About the best that can be said is that Lompoc never gave up and have gotten better over the course of the season, but the recently revived program has a lot of work to do.

Pirates : Team - 26 steals. Goals - Grand Davidson 5, Nolan Morrison 3, Keller Haws 3, Allen Clarke 2, Jacob Thielst 2, Gabe Clear, Kyle O'Neill, Connor Hiatt, Henry Allen, Colin Jamison, Sam Edwards. Goalkeeping - 6 Saves, 3 steals.

Braves : Goals - Humberto Bobadillo, G Francisco, P Greene, B Weiz

The JV match was more of the same, lots of turnovers, lots of goals.

Pirates : Goals - Clayton Davidson 4, Nick Hosking 3, Julian Paley 3, Jared Martin 2, Joe Blanchard 2, Ben Soto 1, Joe Hemming 1, Lukas Bonnet 1, Jaeger Purden 1, Blake Economus 1. Goalkeeper - Drake Clarke , Guy Smith, Joe Hemming (2H). Saves -4.

Braves : Goals - D. Dias 1, A Arias 1. Goalkeeper - J. Kassis, 4 saves.

After a furious 4th quarter rally by the Saints left the score tied 8 aall at the end of regulation, they played the stipulated 2 overtime periods. The Pirates scored once in OT1, the Saints once in OT2. In the third, 'sudden victory', OT period Marcus Peinado tallied a goal to win it for Santa Maria.

GIRLS GOLF

PAC 8 League Finals Tournament   at Cypress Ridge Golf Course  [Arroyo Grande Host] (Par-72)

As with the LPL yesterday, there were two team prizes at stake Wednesday - the tournament victory and the the overall Pac-8 Championship. Thus while Arroyo Grande won the battle, San Luis Obispo won the war.

The Tigers second place finish on Wednesday was good enough for the PAC-8 League title. Although SLO finished in second place in the first and last team tournaments (behind AG both times), the Tigers finished in first place in every other event to finish 6-2 on the season.

Coach Julia Puscheck (LHS Grad) has just two seniors among her Tiger regulars - Grace Park & Hannah Ogden.

Righetti junior Sarah Fouratt shot 77 to take the individual championship for the third consecutive time.
