Cabrillo Won the Statistics, But LHS Won the Game

In our second picture Lompoc High's SETH BROADHEAD enjoys a moment with the Big Game trophy.

The statistical take on The Big Game is absolutely amazing. As assembled by MIKE “The Statmeister” LONEY it appears that Cabrillo won the battle of ball possession 32 minutes to 15, more than double. Cabrillo got off 78 plays, Lompoc only 32. The Conqs better than tripled the Braves on first downs 19-5 and nearly doubled them in total yardage 341-186 and still lost!

Cabrillo coach DON CROSS could only shake his head. “We controlled the line of scrimmage, but we made some mistakes,” he said.

Credit for the two-touchdown Lompoc victory must go to the 94-yard kickoff return by BOBBY COLLINS and the 45-yard interception return by JAMES MITCHELL. The Braves seemed to have a bit more speed, both Collins and team speed. And losing BENNIE GARRETT and MATT ROTONDI to injury as the game wore on doomed Cabrillo chances.
