BOO TO START
According to Columbus Dispatch reporter Mark Znidar it will be BOO JACKSON under center on Saturday for the Ohio University Bobcats.
Znidar reported today that last last week's starting quarterback Theo Scott suffered a broken left collar bone in the game and his place will be taken by Jackson for at least six to eight weeks.
According to Znidar Scott underwent surgery Wednesday after leaving Saturday’s contest at Ohio State in the second quarter. Jackson took over at that point as the Bobcats gave the powerful Buckeyes a scare before falling 26-14.
Jackson passed for 41 touchdowns and 4,610 yards in two seasons at El Camino Junior College but was intercepted three times on Saturday.
"As a quarterback you don't want to get down on yourself, but it's kind of hard not to when you don't have (mistakes) in the first half and fall apart in the second," he told Znidar. Jackson completed nine of 25 passes for 86 yards against the Buckeyes.
Bobcats coach Frank Solich expressed confidence in Jackson.
"Boo is a very confident athlete," Solich said. "He'll make some throws that other quarterbacks won't. That confidence that he has gets thrown off on our players. We have a quarterback in Boo who is very poised and very talented. He's a much better percentage thrower than he showed in that game."
Next Saturday for Ohio comes a home game against Central Michigan, the two-time defending Mid-American Conference champion.
Jackson is at least the third Lompoc High quarterback to go on to play NCAA football at the same position. Jarrod DeGeorgia quarterbacked at Wayne State and Andrew Jones at Upper Iowa but neither were Division I (now Bowl Division) programs.
