BITS--Coe Runs 3:56 Mile/Solomon/Scott/Ornelas


Coe Sets New Cal Record


MICHAEL COE set a new University of California record for the mile run Saturday in Berkeley-- 3:56.18


It was the fastest mile in the nation so far this season and also the third fastest mile time IN THE WORLD this year.


Also in track & field DUANE SOLOMON won the 800 at the Mt. SAC Relays April 11 with another best-in-the nation time --1:46.85.

In football Hancock College defensive back JOSEPH SCOTT has accepted a football scholarship at Union College in Kentucky. Union finished last season ranked No. 10 in the NAIA and won the Mid-South Conference title with a 9-3 (5-1) record.

In college baseball BEN ORNELAS is unloading on Lewis-Clark's opponents. Big Ben, playing first base, is currently batting .408, second best on the perennial NAIA champs' roster, and his slugging percentage of .694 is numero uno. The small-school Warriors knocked off the University of Washington this week.
