Good day in the Valley

Tuesday's Action

SOFTBALL

Cabrillo 12, Santa Maria 1 [Story]

Cabrillo took advange of several Saints errors, got hits when they needed them and cruised to a run-rule shortened 12-1 victory. The big blast was a three-run homer by Lindsie Holloway.

Amanda Leake pitched a complete game three-hitter, with 4 strike-outs and 2 walks. Michaela Rucobo started for the Saints, but was victimized by the errors for 8 runs. Eventually, Santa Maria went to veteran pitcher Deja Camacho, who made her initial appearance of the season after being injured in the team's first scrimmage.

Friday, Santa Maria will play at Templeton, and Cabrillo is at Morro Bay.

Lompoc [3-0 LPL] 2, St. Joseph [2-1 LPL] 1
Usually unflappable Lompoc Coach, Margie Ledgerwood was almost giddy, much to the surprise of her team. They, of course, never had an opportunity to see her fiery play for the Braves back in the day. It was quite a game.

Pitchers Jeana Carrillo (Lompoc) and the Kailey Snyder (Knight) went head-to-head at LHS. Both pitched complete games - Snyder allowed five hits, while Carrillo allowed six.

The difference was Carrillo at the plate. She drove in both Lompoc runs, with an RBI double in the fourth inning, and the game-winner in the eighth inning.

In the eighth, Elicity Fabing doubled with one out. Carrillo came to the plate, worked the count full, then put the ball in play. Her single would have put runners on the corners, but by time the count went full, Ledgerwood had already decided to send the runner. Fabing charged down the line to the plate, the throw came home, and Fabings' slide just beat it in a Bang-bang play at home. Lompoc has the Bye on Friday.

Morro Bay [10-0] 11, Santa Ynez [4-9, 0-3] 2
Kim Dauer (Morro Bay) pitched a complete game, struck-out 11, and went 2-4 at the plate.
For the Pirates, Jasmine Singh was 2-4 (double, triple, 3 RBI), and Gina Ion was 2-2 (3 RBI) with 3 stolen bases.

Jeff Smith [2-1] took the loss for St Joe.

Cabrillo (2-0 LPL) 10, Santa Maria (0-3 LPL) 1

Santa Ynez [9-2, 2-1] 17, Morro Bay [4-4, 1-1] 0
