Catching Up (Sort Of)

All the senior ladies ....
The five, somewhat chilly, seniors on the LHS golf squad after posting the last dual win of their high school carreers. Julieta Solis, Kalee Goethe, Stacy Green, Kelsey Kolish, and Stephanie Cardoza.

LPL Girls Golf
The LPL regular season is drawing rapidly to a close, with the final event, Tournament #6, on Thursday. It will be hosted at the Morro Bay GC by the Pirates.

@ Lompoc 319, Morro Bay 348
[At La Purisima - front 9]
It was a nice, mostly sunny day; increasingly windy late - in other words, tough golfing conditions. It is La Purisima. It was the second duals win for Lompoc. It was also the final dual match of the season for both teams, and secured fourth place in the LPL for the Braves. Baring any truly astounding events, both teams will conclude their seasons at the last LPL tourney.

Medalist - Lompoc senior Kalee Goethe's 53 was 4 strokes better than teammate Julieta Solis (57). Fellow Brave Stacy Green tied her season record 59 to become only the 3rd player in the match scoring under 60.

Team / Individual Scores
Lompoc [319]: Kalee Goethe 53, Julietta Solis 57, Stacy Green 59, Stephanie Cardoza 72, Kelsey Kolish 78.
Morro Bay [348]: Jill Steinman 60, Michelle Cordova 65, Holly Requa 67, Jennifer Baltimore 70, Cathy Duncan 86.
Each team had just 5 competitors in this match.

Santa Ynez 220, Cabrillo 251
[At Alisal Ranch, River Course - front 9]
The Pirates [14-2-1, 5-0-1 LPL Duals, 5-0 LPL Tourneys] sewed up the LPL championship a fourth consecutive year. A 261-all tie with Nipomo, when two of their regulars were out, marred Pirate perfection in the LPL. They are favored to win again on Thursday.

Medalist - Morgan Salm rebounded from Thursday's worst LPL round of her season (43), and the horribleness that is second place to tally her second best round of the season - a one-over-par 37. Five strokes better than the Pirate's Kristen Henno (42).

"Medalist Morgan" has been the Medalist in 9 of 12 rounds this fall (8 of 10 LPL), finishing 2nd in the other three. Salm also returned to the 30's - a place she has been in 9 of her 11 9-hole rounds this year.

Team / Individual Scores
Santa Ynez: Kristin Henno 42, Meredith Stewart 44, Christiana Layman 44, Maddison Shean 45, Sarah Sanger 45.
Cabrillo: Morgan Salm 37, Mariah Hall 50, Isabel Tejada 52, Jade Stevens 56, Jaqueline McDonaugh 56.

The third match, between Nipomo & Santa Maria, has not reported any results. The Saints have rarely fielded a full five this year, and the Titans may, I believe, be safely credited with the win.

Cabrillo grad Danny Duffy's trip with Team USA Baseball to Puerto Rico was rewarded with a Bronze medal in the qualifying tournament for both the World Championships and Pan-Am Games. However, his Dad, Cabrillo PA announcer Dan Duffy, returned from the Huntsman Senior World Games in St Georges, Utah with a Gold medal in softball. As a result, the elder Duffy gets to stay in Lompoc, while the upstart heads south to report to the Royals Arizona Fall League squad after only a few days in town.

Information on the three tournaments held over the weekend have less than trickled in - dripped, maybe ? This we know -

Oxnard Tourney:
Each team was slated to play 4 games - 2 each on Friday & Saturday. Neither Cabrillo or Santa Ynez finished in the top half of the 16 teams involved. Both were the #3 seeds in their respective pools, and the teams seeded ahead of them did finish in the top 8.

Santa Maria Tourney:
Nipomo dropped the Championship game 9-4 to Clovis East, who won for the 4th consecutive year, and the 7th time overall. In the semi-finals, Clovis East stopped Morro Bay 12-3, and Nipomo topped Pioneer Valley 17-2. Morro Bay (3-16) eked out a 6-5 overtime win to take 3rd place away from PV (1-12). The Panthers had previously won their first game of the year with a 7-3 over Lompoc on Friday.

Santa Maria was reported to be 0-3 in the tourney at one point. Two of those losses came on Friday - an 18-4 thumping by Nipomo, and a sudden death overtime loss to Morro Bay. Nipomo also beat Morro Bay 13-6 on Friday.
