Girls Soccer: Lompoc was at Righetti. Cabrillo was off, but plays on Saturday.

A few Notes :

1) AD Dan Troup said that several people have already contacted him about the head varsity football coach position, and that the school hopes to have a selection made by the end of January.

A group of administrators will be meeting soon to determine the parameters for the search including how wide a net to cast, compensation, et cetera. In the meantime he is putting together a group of illustrious folk to form the interview panel when the time comes.

2) Coach Troup also is trying to re-schedule the Cabrillo-Paso Robles Dual Wrestling match for a Saturday in January. He is waiting to hear back from Paso about his proposed dates.

Girls Water Polo

St Joseph vs Cabrillo
(at the City of Lompoc Aquatic Center)

In a bit of a switch, the JV game was played 1st.

Varsity

There was a lot of this -

Some of this -

[3:40]: Cabrillo 20, St Joseph 11
[Cab 5,1,7,7 -20  StJ 0,2,4,5 - 11]

The Conqs roared out to 4-0 lead in the 1st 2 minutes and never looked back. Head Coach Corey McIntyre began massive substitutions midway through the first period, and the next dozen minutes were somewhat disjointed. The teams were an even 2-2 the rest of the half, with St Joseph scoring twice on counters after offensive miscues by Cabrillo.

Many of the starters returned for about 3 minutes of the 3rd, out-scoring the Knights 4-1, and then most turned into spectators for the remainder.

Samantha 'Sam' Munoz  talks to varsity teammates working the JV game table.
Cabrillo received some reinforcements for the game, Sam Munoz returned from injury and illness to reclaim her defender spot where she completely stymied the Knights in the 2-meter when she was in the pool. Also freshman Meagan Vail was brought up from the JV unit and was quite effective, scoring a pair of goals (a third was disallowed) and playing decent defense.

On a rather bizare note, the only Cabrillo players who did not score - all had cap numbers that were prime numbers (or 1). Coincidence? McIntyre does teach science after all.

Conqs [4-3]:

Goals - Tori Bray 4, Sam Carroll 3, Sam Wulfestieg 2, Savannah Tucker 2, Lili Talkin 2, Meagan Vail 2, Natalie Wilkie, Abby Stangl, Kelly Ogan.

Goalkeeping - Demi Ames played the 1st Quarter and about 3:30 at the start of the 3rd recording 5 saves and a steal; Lindsey Edman played the 2nd & 4th and the rest of the 3rd and had 4 Saves.

Knights
Goals - Michaela Plummer 4, Alexis Laggren 3, Cassidy Baldwin 2, Brooke Jaeckels 1, Erica Harms 0, Kat Porter 0.

Goalkeeping - The Knights only had 7 players available on varsity, so when a defender got in foul trouble with 4 minutes left in the 4th period, she was swapped with the net-minder. A few minutes later they switched back. The starter, Cassie Rippy, had 3 saves, Michaela Plummer had 1 save and allowed 1 goal.

Junior Varsity

Cabrillo snared the 1st Quarter sprint and St Joseph had some nice work in net

but then Maddison Stangl got the Conqs started.

[2:40]: Cabrillo 9, St Joseph 2
[Cabrillo 6,0,1,2 - 9   StJ 0,1,0,1 - 2]

When it was over, it was over quickly, but it still took a while to finish. Cabrillo started fairly well, notching goals at the 3:39 (Stangl) and 2:34 (Towe) marks of the 1st Ouarter and then shifted into high gear scoring 4 more times (Owens, Lafoon, Stevens, Stangl) in an 80-second span starting with 1:49 left in the first period. Five different players accounted for the 6 goals.

Only 5 more goals were recorded by both teams in the rest of the game - Cabrillo with 1 in the 3rd (Carlon) & 2 in the 4th (Marsh, Petit), while St Joseph collected 1 each in the 2nd &  4th. Eight Conqs scored.

Conqs [3-0]: Goals - Maddison Stangl 2, Sarah Towe, Michayla Owens, Chaise Lafoon, Kailey Stevens, Alia Carlon, Gillian Marsh, Sohyoung Petit. Goalkeeping - Rylan Scott 3 saves.

Knights : Goals - Emily Gantt 2. Goalkeeping - Jasmine 3 saves.

Girls Soccer

Righetti at Lompoc
(varsity at Huyck Stadium)

Righetti 2, Lompoc 0
[Halftime 2-0 Righetti]

Righetti struck twice early, and while the Braves had several quality opportunities, they were unable to convert them into points.

Evelyn Acosta had a pair of good shots on goal, but both were saved - one, a header off a corner kick, in spectacular fashion by the Righetti keeper. Alejandra Martinez had one deflect off the post. Several other players also had near misses.

Vanessa Vargas, Maria Tafoya, Andrea Hill, and Lacei Sanders (up from the JV) all drew praise for their defensive work against a very strong Warrior side.

Braves : Goals - None. Goalkeeper - Audrey Ogden "at least 10-11" saves according to the staff.

Warriors : Goals (Assists) - Michaela Olney (25th,Haley Meyer), Brook Minetti (29th,None). Goalkeeper - Melissa Steller [1H] - "a couple" saves. Leann Wulf [2H] - "several, including a big one" on Acosta.

Junior Varsity

Lompoc 1, Righetti 1

The Braves were bolstered by the return from the varsity of Yadira Castellanos, and received another great performance from Mercedes Signorelli in the net. Brynn Grossini and Ali Gonzalez stood out on defense.

Coach Mike Kimmy said that the girls played very well overall.

Righetti did celebrate some after the match. Not due to the game, however, but because it was Sophie Buelow's birthday.

Braves : Goals  - Yadira Castellanos. Goalkeeper - Mercedes Signorelli.

Warriors : Goals (Assists) - Mellany Cuningham (Brittney Rodriguez). Goalkeeper - Alyssa Betts played the whole game and had "about 4" saves according to coach Ian Lane.
