Becca Ur Nominated; Joel's Huskies Fall Short

BECCA UR, the two-meter pivot of the San Diego State women’s water polo team, has been nominated a finalist in the Lompoc Locker Room Athlete of the Year competition.

A junior, Ur served as co-captain of the No. 4-ranked Aztecs who went 29-10 and had their most successful season in the 13-year history of the program. They qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time. This is no easy task: in water polo the tourney consists of not 64 teams but just eight.

Ur scored 28 goals. She was also second on the squad with 71 ejections drawn and ranked second among starters with a .438 shooting percentage. The Cabrillo High graduate has made 73 consecutive starts in the 2-meter position.

And she received academic all-league honors with a 3.67 GPA in biology.

Ur joins her sister Sarah, and eight other nominees on the Female Athlete of the Year ballot. Take a look at the nominations list in the right-hand column below our sponsors.

YOU can nominate right now! Just e-mail your nominee to pressboxprod@verizon.net in any of four categories: Male Athlete of 2007, Female Athlete of 2007, Coach of the Year and Team of the Year.
