Sargeant Nominated; Geoff & Jason Snap "L" String

LYDELL SARGEANT of Penn State (pictured here with his Cabrillo High coach Don Cross), has been nominated for consideration as Lompoc’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Making the transition from offense to defense, Lydell spent most of the 2006 season as an effective reserve cornerback and an important member of the special teams, seeing action in every game. At the start of spring practice in 2007, the former wide receiver was a contender for a starting cornerback spot. His progress during the spring gained the attention of the coaching staff, who selected him as the recipient of the Jim O'Hora Award as the defense's most improved player.

During the season Sargeant started eight of the Lions’ 12 games and racked up 65 tackles to lead all defensive backs. He also intercepted two passes, returning one against Michigan for 31 yards.

Take a look at the other nominees in the right-hand column below our sponsors.
