ANDREW JONES, who quarterbacked the Bologna High-Tech Media Warriors into the Italian Football League playoffs, has been nominated for consideration as Lompoc’s Athlete of the Year.
Jones just a year ago was coming off a senior year in which he was named Honorable Mention at Div. II Upper Iowa. During winter vacation he was contacted by representatives of the Warriors and by March he was in the university city of Bologna.
Not expected to do much, the unheralded Warriors, with Jones at QB as well as offensive coordinator, reached the playoffs. Jones was the first Lompocan to play in Europe since Jarrod DeGeorgia played in Sweden in 2000.
A short movie was even filmed showing Jones connecting on numerous passes including a TD toss and a Lompoc classic, the hook-and-ladder. Check it out at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5913055388465509888&hl=it
