Michael Coe Nominated; Voting Looms

Distance runner MICHAEL COE...

...has been nomin-ated for Lomp-oc Male Athlete of 2007.

Running 1500 meters for the Cal track team this spring Coe improved his times enough to qualify for the NCAA Western Regional where the freshman finished an impressive tenth.

In the fall he dramatically improved his ranking on the Bears’ Cross Country team which posted its best season in the history of the program. The Golden Bears participated as a team in the NCAA championships for the first time in school history. In the NCAA Western regional Coe was the fourth Bear to finish, in 31:10.9, but in the national championship race he moved up to third with a time of 31:16.9.

VOTING LOOMS, SCHEDULE SET

After nearly a month of nominations the three-stage Lompoc Locker Room commemoration of the athletic exploits of 2007 is nearing its culmination.

On Monday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. on "Lompoc Locker Room, the TV Show" (Comcast Channel 25) the LLR Select Panel will reveal its choices for Lompoc Male and Female Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year. The panel of 15 is drawn from a broad cross-section of sportswriters, broadcasters, high school athletic directors and coaches, and youth sports figures. Don't miss that show.

At the conclusion of the show this website will begin to tabulate YOUR VOTES for the LLR People's Choice Awards. Regardless of how "the experts" vote, the Peoples' Choice Awards will be based solely on your votes. Just e-mail pressboxprod@verizon.net to record your vote. Just tell us who you want to vote for (but please not before Monday evening). Voting will remain open for six days, closing Sunday night December 23. We will do our best to maintain a running tabulation were on-site, but no guarantees.
