Busy day on the diamonds and on the courts. Lompoc hosted the Templeton Eagles in varsity baseball, softball, and tennis - Cabrillo did the same for St. Joseph.
Baseball
Lompoc
Varsity [7-10, 31] Won 15-11 @ Bodary Field
Head coach Jim Allen was succinct - " We couldn't throw strikes. " Brave hurlers only gave up 3 hits, but they hit 2 batters and walked an astounding 11 more. Lompoc recieved just enough defense and timely hitting late in the game to keep themselves ahead in this one. Ryan Bower, Rudy Yregas, and Richie Hirzel all pitched two innings, and Daulton Rouleau finished up. Bower started the day off giving up 2 hits & 5 walks, hit a batter and yet all four of the runs he gave up in 2 innings were unearned. Rouleau had a home run, while going 2-4, with 3 RBI's & 2 runs scored. Scott Aguailar (3-4, 2 runs), Brandon Alonzo (2-2, 1 RBI, 3 runs), Cody Berryman (1-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) all hit triples.
Lompoc has now won three in a row, and 4 of the last five games.
Cabrillo
Varsity [8-9, 3-2] lost 9-5 to St. Joseph. [See Story]
Cabrillo missed several opportunities, before Papa Osbourne's troops got five runs on six hits in the ninth to put it out of reach.
Softball
Cabrillo
Varsity [10-6, 3-1] lost 9-1 to St. Joseph.
Lompoc
Varsity [7-9, 1-3] won vs. Templeton 2-0. Al DeMaria finally had the team he thought he had show up. The #1 ranked Eagles were somewhat short-handed, with four girls out sick - but none of the missing were named Kat Hicks. Hicks, one of the top pitchers around (06 SLO Co POY, 07 1st team CIF), was rocked in the second by a homer by Stephanie Dosa. In the third, Paty Martinez got on base as a result of an error, went to 2nd on a passed ball, and was driven home by Dana Campitelli's double to the wall in center. Carillo has another very good outing , going the distance while scattering five hits while striking out six.
Tennis
Lompoc
Varsity [7-4,5-2 3rd] Lompoc defeated the Eagles by the same margin they did earlier this year - 13-5. Alex Jensen won his usual three sets, Robert Rodriquez also won three, andMarco Psallo won one. Anthony Yang/ Kyle Thumm won once after two narrow losses. Joel Martin & Jesus Abrego won all three of their sets, including a 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker versus the #1's. Cooper Barrick / Oscar Rodriguez captured two sets.
JV The perpetually shorthanded Braves forfeited six points right off the bat, but were able to evenly split the 12 matches actually played. Wyatt Patterson won two sets, Carlos Diaz picked up one, and in doubles Gabriel Hernandez / Edgar Solis grabed a set, and Chris Aldama / Devin Day took two.
Cabrillo
Varsity The Conquistadores were pounded again by St Joseph 18-0 .
JV David Terrones and Jeff Rodriguez won three sets at #1 doubles, the Matt Stumreiter/ Daniel Garmendia combo won 2 sets as the Juniors lost to St. Joseph 13-5.
