Lompoc / Cabrillo

"It looks like a whole lot of Lompoc, and a little bit of Cabrillo" said Cabrillo Head Coach Dan Troup. His charges have run into some real buzzsaws recently as they faced the top teams in the LPL. They fell by wide margins to St. Joseph, and Santa Ynez then dropped a 16-2 match to the Braves on Thursday.
The Braves were totally dominant in singles, as Alex Jensen (all 6-0), Robert Rodriguez (6-0,6-1,6-1), and Anthony Yang (6-4,6-1,6-3) all swept Cabrillo singles players Casey Owen, Ben Brady, and Eric Wang. Yang was competing in singles for the first time since 2005.
The Cabrillo points were scored by the doubles unit of Andrew Shewell & Ryan Anderson who topped Lompoc's #1 Kyle Thumm /Marco Psallo 6-4 and #3 Cooper Barrick / Oscar Rodriguez in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-1). Thumm/ Psallo had two wins- 6-4 over Jose Flores/ Tanner Stark & 6-3 over Arjun Ayyar/ Jordan Daniels, while the #3's defeated the same two units 6-3 & 6-2. Lompoc's #2 doubles, Joel Martin and Jesus Abrego, swept all three sets 6-0, 6-4, 6-0.
Jensen is now 26-2 this season, and Lompoc moved to 9-4 (7-2 LPL). Cabrillo is now 3-7 in the LPL. [Story]
