Baseball

Lompoc / Cabrillo
Varsity Not a pitching duel. The Braves got 12 hits and seven free passes (5 walks, 2 hit batters), while the Conq's put up 10 hits and received 2 walks plus 2 hit batters of their own. Throw in numerous errors, and it was a very entertaining session at Dan Bodary Field on Friday. It ended with the Braves on top 8-7 [Story].
Junior Varsity & Freshman The JV game was an almost mirror image of the varsity. Cabrillo prevailed 8-6 in an error plagued effort by both squads. Both Chris White (CHS) & Daniel Dunaetz (LHS) pitched complete games, Dunaetz with 8 strikeouts. Lompoc 's Kyle Martin tripled, and both Pedro Torres & Zach Powell doubled. Nick Macomber walked three times and had a stolen base.
On Tuesday, Lompoc defeated Templeton 11-3, as Nick Tatigue had a monster day. He went 3-5 including a triple, with 4 RBI, and in four innings on the mound struck out 7, walked 3 , and allowed 1 earned run. Peter Hernandez (3 K, 1 walk, 0 runs), and Daniel Dunaetz (1 K, 1 walk) finished up. Almost everybody hit well, led by Pedro Torres (2-4).
The Freshmen played on Saturday and it was reportedly a Lompoc run-away with the 10-run rule coming into effect.

Swimming

Cabrillo The Cabrillo meet versus the Pirates has been moved to Santa Ynez on Monday. The meet against Santa Maria that was postponed due to heater problems, took place last Monday, but no results are availible. We hope to have that information soon.

Lompoc The Braves split with the St. Joseph Knights at the COLAC on Friday. The Boys won 88-69 due to the rare instance of having better depth, while the girls were submerged 95-75 in a contest that wasn't decided until the last few races. Both Lompoc JV squads won easily (Boys 47-0, Girls 106-0) since the Knights do not field JV teams.
Boys St. Joe won eight of the eleven races but the superior depth of the Braves allowed them to rack up down-ballot points. Carl Thacker won the 200 Freestyle (2:13.50), Kyle Pickles won the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.39),and those two joined with Robert Macias and Michael Ostrander to win the 4 x 400 relay (4:04.01).
Girls The Braves led by two points with five races left, but watched as the Knights slowly pulled ahead. St Joe swimmers just edged out Lompoc girls for points down the stretch - frequently by fractions of seconds. Lompoc recieved wins from the 200M Medley Relay unit (Kimly Hoang, Karla Alvarado, Erika Elenas, & Andrea Caballero) and Andrea Caballero in the 100M Freestyle (1:05.04).

Awards

The SBNP recently announced selections for their All-County Basketball Teams. Chelsea Cassulo (LHS), Jozza Ray (LHS), and Roxanne Rentschler (CHS) represent the valley on the girls team. Joe Alerta (LHS) and Paul Carter (CHS) were named to the boys unit.

NOTE: The Complete results from Friday's Lompoc/St. Joseph swim meet and the Cabrillo / St. Joseph & Lompoc / Morro Bay track meets will hopefully be available this weekend. Check back to this post for periodic updates. -- el stato
