Aaaaaaaannnnddd the Winter Season is Underway

Although there are still a few scrimmages scheduled, the 'real' games began on Monday. In December, there are some scattered non-league contests, a bunch of tournaments in various sports, and even (in the week of the 13th to 18th) the start of LPL play. That brief league spurt will be followed, however, by more non-league/tournaments until LPL play resumes in January.

Girls Soccer
Cabrillo 3, Pioneer Valley 0
The Conqs could have, and probably should have, won this one in an easier fashion, but at times they looked about as rusty as an old hob-nail, and they were facing a fiesty group of Panthers that never quit.

Cabrillo was, however, clearly the better team, with a vast majority of the game was played on the PV side of the field. Lauren Pluim, who was in goal for the injured (again) Kristina Goodchild, spent more time alone than the Maytag Repairman.

Cabrillo collected goals from Stephanie Miranda, Rebecka Miranda, and Caitlin Harvey-Morgan. Kady DeTemple and Mia Cortez were seemingly everywhere, and Rhiannon Saxe was her usual solid self, as the back & midfield controlled the game.

As an intro to the season it wasn't bad, a win is a win after all, but when Head Coach Derrick Wong gets this group playing like a well-oiled machine, ya' better watch out, 'cause they are gonna be hell-on-cleats.

Panther Coach Manuel Casillas especially liked the work done by defenders Elizabeth Jaramillo & Stephanie Ramos in the back, and by Edith Camacho all over the field.

Junior Varsity:
The Panthers got 3 goals from Sara Cotta & Karina Tovar to edge the Conqs 3-2. Jamie Hedges scored one for the locals off an assist by Priscilla Angulo, who also netted the other goal. That score was assisted byKelsey Sherry. Coach Sheryl Murray commended the play of Sara Heath (on both offense & defense) and Audrianna LaPorte.
