The area sports scene was rocked by two events over the weekend. One was the heart attack suffered by Lee Central Coast Newspaper Group Sports Editor Elliot Stern. Elliot appears to be on the road to recovery, but will be off work for the foreseeable future. The second, even sadder, event was the death Friday night of Ed Knowles, after an illness.
Ed was the father of current Cabrillo Head Coach Craig Knowles, and a long-time teacher and coach at the school in his own right. He was also one heck of a nice guy. He will definitely be missed. A special ceremony is being planned for this Friday's "Big Game" to commemorate his contributions to the Lompoc Valley community.
