Other LPL Teams

Templeton 49, at Morro Bay 45 [OT]
[Temp 11,11,13,4,10 - 49 MB 7,16,3,13,6 - 45]

In a battle for control of the LPL race, the Eagles defeated Morro Bay for what some believe to be the first time ever.

Templeton was certainly playing the Pirates for the first time since the 2008-2009 season without having to deal with 6'3" Hannah Gilbert and the first time in decades without longtime coach Carey Nerelli. Cal Poly signee Gilbert, a four year Pirate powerhouse (1220 points, 855 rebounds, 166 blocks) and Nerelli (Allan Hancock) have both moved on to the college ranks.

Even without Gilbert, who had 42 points and 20 rebounds in two blowout (30,32) wins against the Eagles last year, it wasn't easy. Several players, including 5 senior starters led by Mari Stewart had to come up big for the Eagles to win their 5th in a row and end the Pirates six-game winning streak.

The Eagles built leads in the 1st and 3rd periods only to see Morro Bay come roaring back in the 2nd (for a 1 point advantage) and 4th quarters (to tie).

Some Key Factors: Mari Stewart played the entire 4th quarter and OT with 4 fouls. In the OT period Templeton held MB to 1 FG and 4 FT. They also were plus 11 (10-21) in turnovers for the game.

Eagles [13-2, 3-0]:
Team - 2PT 38% (15-40), 3PT 21% (4-19), FT 50% (7-14). 38 rebounds (16 Offensive), 14 assists, 7 steals, 10 turnovers.
Individual - Mari Stewart 19, 17 rbds; Marissa Torres 14 (2x3) [2-4 FT], 6 rbds; Paige O’Sullivan 7 (1x3) [2-3 FT], 7 rbds, 6 blks, 5 assts, 2 defl; Briana Belmonte 5 (1x3 - early on OT) [2-2 FT]; Autumn Russell 4, 3 rbds, great def on Schwellenbach; Melat Zippi 0; Annie Elterman 0; Hailey Sudbrink 0.

Pirates [11-2, 4-1]:
Team - 2PT 45% (15-33), 3PT 19% (3-16), FT 50% (6-12). 38 rebounds (10 Offensive), 7 assists, 11 steals, 21 turnovers.

Individual - Kara Schmidt 17 (2x3) [1-1 FT], 3 blks, 3 stls; Sierra Schwellenbach 12 [2-3 FT], 19 rbds, 5 stls, 4 defl; Vicki Roboz 6 (1x3) [1-3 FT]; Nikki Machado 4, 4 rbds (Fouled Out); Julia Fonturbel 4, 7 rbds; Olivia MacDonald 2 [2-5 FT], 4 rbds; Shannon Stebbins 0, 3 rbds..
