Lompoc Varsity Tennis Team 2013

Pioneer Valley vs Lompoc at the Dave Bickmore Courts (LHS)

Lompoc 17, Pioneer Valley 1

It was a great day for the singles, and the doubles weren't to shabby either! The best contest of the day, though, wasn't one of the Brave blowouts - it was a comeback by the #1 Doubles duo of Genesis Garza/Erin Gracyk.

Facing the Panthers #2 combo [Maxi Spiessel/Clarissa Estrada], who had already claimed one pair of victims, they were looking at set point down 3-5 on a rapidly cooling afternoon. Since it was the last match still going and the larger issue had long been decided, it would have been quite easy to give up and go home. Instead, they battled back, first to take that game to duece and eventual victory, and then then the next three games to take the set 7-5.

Braves:
Singles [9-0]
#1 Emily Gracyk 3-0 (6-1,6-2,6-0);
#2 Marielle Tabin 3-0 (6-0,6-0,6-0);
#3 Erica Gracyk 3-0 (6-2,6-1,6-0).

Doubles [8-1]
#1 Genesis Garza/Erin Gracyk 3-0 (6-4,7-5,6-2);
#2 Colette Campitelli/Noemi Diaz 1-1 (6-0,5-7);
Carmen Chavez/Stephanie Bobadilla 1-0 (6-4);
#3 Gessell Lopez/Edith Elenes 2-0 (6-1,6-1);
Karina Cervantes/ Sofia Carillo 1-0 (6-4).

Girls Golf

Orcutt Academy vs Lompoc at La Purisma

Lompoc 301, Orcutt Academy 323
Nicole Flores

On a somewhat blustery afternoon the Braves prevailed on the tough La Purisima course the Lompoc girls hard work and experience paid off. They posted their best score of the season, while OA had to face the course with players who are fairly new to the game and had never seen "La Piranha" before.

Lompoc had Nicole Flores join the varsity for this one, while the Spartans were without their usual #2 Kiana Orteza.
