Time once again to assemble a group of the top area athletes at Giovanni's in Orcutt for the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable. This week the focus was on Football, Girls Tennis and Boys Water Polo.


The Female Athlete of the Week Award 
Mary Kovaloski, Freshman, Santa Ynez Tennis

Swept opponents twice last week. Tuesday she only lost 5 games (6-4, 6-1, 6-0) while helping the Pirates topple the previously unbeaten Orcutt Academy Spartans. 14-4. On Thursday, she lost none. Santa Ynez blanked the Santa Maria Saints and Kovaloski was 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 at #2 Singles.

SY Tennis:  Bree Jensen (#1 Dbls), AOTW Mary Kovalowski (#2 Sgls), Shane Sorenson (#1 Sngls).

The Male Athlete of the Week Award 
Ainuu Taua, Senior, Lompoc Football

You didn't seriously think it was going to be someone else, did you? In the 1st half on Friday, Dos Pueblos attempted 19 plays from scrimmage. Plays 1 and 19 were both Taua Sacks, In just those 19 plays he had 4 sacks, 2 funbles caused, and 1 fumble recovery (on a sack by Sheldon Carpenter). He also had several other tackles, and was in general, a massively disruptive force. And that was just on defense ... In the first half. In the 2nd half he had another sack & caused fumble.

 He also plays TE (He might have the best hands & ball awareness on the team), running back, and punts.
