Boys Water Polo

Pioneer Valley 19, at Lompoc 6 [COLAC]
[Lom 2,1,1,2 - 6   PV 1,8,7,3 - 19]

Lompoc got off to a good start and led 2-0, but the Panthers got on the board with 26 seconds to go in the 1st and the floodgates opened. The young and inexperienced Braves also struggled with some of the rules. For instance, the starter in goal received a game exclusion for leaving the 'field of play', when he swam under the end rope to retrieve a ball that had gone wide.

The only previous experience most had were the 4 games played in the PV Tourney earlier this year, and this match was their 1st head-to-head match of the season.

Braves [0-5]: Goals - Gary Berleve 2, Trevor Parker, Misael Evans, Steven Rodriguez, Erik Diggs.  Saves - Kyle Robinson 3, Phoenix Herrigel 1

Panthers [4-7]Goals - Andrew Huitron 6, Ian Granski 4, David Cortez 3, Andrew Litzinger 3, Kevan Moreno 2, Anthony Saucedo. Saves - Jorge Gonzalez 7.

Junior Varsity

Pioneer Valley , at Lompoc [COLAC]
[Lom 1,2,4,1 - 8  PV 4,2,2,3 - 11]

The Varsity game looked like it was going to be close, before the Panthers blew it open. This contest looked like it was going to be a rout early, but the Braves rallied to tie it twice fairly late in the game before PV pulled away at the end.

Lompoc gave up the four scores to start the game, finally got a score with 2:27 left in the 1st Quarter, then were stifled by a series of exclusions. and played even in the second. They reached a 7-all tie with 0:23 left in the 3rd, but allowed a quick-hitter with just 10 clicks on the clock.

The Braves evened the score in the 4th, but PV tallied 3 goals in the back half of the period for the 11-8 final result'

Braves: Goals - Alejandro Rodriguez 2, James Torres 2, Victor Rodriguez 2, Brandon Weisz, Eriberto Ramirez.  Saves - Jamel Whitaker 8

Girls Tennis

at the Dave Bickmore Courts (LHS)
St Joseph  14,  at Lompoc 4
Round 1: 2-4 Round 2: 1-5  Round 3: 1-5

It was a beautiful day at the Bickmore Courts, perhaps that was the problem. The visitors didn't have to deal with the legendary Lompoc wind and cruised
to victory.

Another theory proposed was that even with three players out sick, the Knights may have been helped by the "Pizza Factor". The two girls, Julianne Ortega & Gabi Brunello, who represented St Joe at the Roundtable Luncheon were undefeated.

Could be St Joseph just played really good tennis. Especially in doubles.

Neither squad used substitutes, but the Knights shuffled their line-up some due to the missing players. Usual singles player Clare Gonzales moved to join Rylie Will at #3 Doubles & and Maribel Orozco normally a Singles sub moved to the #3 Singles spot.

Braves [4-3, 2-1]:

#1 Emily Gracyk 1-2 (0-6, 2-6, 6-0);

#3 Kavindika Wimalasoma/Chia Lee 2-1 (1-6, 6-0, 6-0).

Knights :

The three girls out sick resulted in St Joseph being a player short on the JV squad. They had to forfeit 3 sets, lacking anyone to compete at #3 singles.

The Knights line-up was not provided.
