Braves Fall Again
Friday night the Lompoc Brave football team lost its third straight game in Pac-7 League play, this by 16-8 to Arroyo Grande at Huyck Stadium.
The Braves were unable to move the ball until the final quarter when a pass from Rich Hirzel to Nick Brundy put them on the scoreboard for the first time. A two-point conversion Hirzel to Brundy was successful, but it was a case of too little too late.
With an 0-3 start the Braves will not qualify for a CIF playoff berth even if they post wins in their last two contests, Atascadero on Friday and Righetti the following week. They play Cabrillo in their season finale.
A winning season still hangs in the balance. The Braves have matched their four victories of last season but a record of better than .500 is still possible with victories in two of their final three.
Cabrillo on the other hand moved to 3-2 in Los Padres League play by coming from behind to stop Nipomo. Looks like it's time to start paying more attention to the Conquistadores.

Cross - Country
The Cabrillo Cross Country hordes (30 boys / 31 Girls) & the Lompoc boys varsity (7 runners) traveled to the enormous (thousands of athletes and hundreds of races) X-C event at Mt. San Antonio College. There were 19 Division 3 races, including Frosh, Soph, JV, Varsity, and Sweepstakes races for both boys and girls - many with multiple heats. The locals participated in the Frosh, Soph, JV, and Varsity races - with Lompoc in the same boys varsity race (#14) as the Conquistadors.
