Boys Water Polo

Lompoc / Cabrillo @ the COLAC
Varsity: Cabrillo won 9-6.
[Story]

The Braves actually led 4-3 at halftime, but a 1:08 stretch in the 3rd quarter did them in. The Conquistadors scored three goals in that span [6:54, 6:17, & 5:46] en route to a 9-6 victory. The weapon of choice for the Conquistadors was the fast break off of turnovers and missed shots.

Cabrillo had six players score, but was led by Tyler Thompson with three. Patrick Robinson, Jacob Schlosser, Brayson Ogan, Garrett Darling, and Tyler Chard had one goal apiece.

Lompoc received 3 goals from Daniel Dunaetz, and solo shots from Michael Ostrander, Kyle Pickles, and Robert Macias.

Junior Varsity: Cabrillo won 12-8.

This was another good one, tied 7-all at the end of three quarters. Cabrillo took advantage of several Lompoc turnovers, got their fast break working, and fed the ball to 2-meter man Emmet Hill who had 4 goals in the period.

Hill scored 9 goals, including 4 in the first, to give Cabrillo a 4-3 lead after one stanza. Lompoc got goals from "The Joshes" Rondash and Menezes in the second, and it was tied 5-5 at the half.

Ryan Leyva had 2 goals, and Aaron Hay had one for Cabrillo. Brandon Bassett, Carter Bovee, and Menezes each had two goals. Rondash & Naem Nameh had the other two.

David Barber had a great game in goal for the 'visiting' Braves. He stoped at least a half dozen shots - many in spectacular fashion, including the one at the top of the post.

There was plenty of coaching experience on hand if Joel Jory (CHS Varsity) or Jeff Dacus (CHS JV) faltered. Three coaches who have won Water Polo CIF Championships at CHS, and long-time assistant Dave Riley were at pool-side for the match. From left - Bob Boyer (recently CHS AD), Corey McIntyre (Girls Varsity Coach), Riley, and current CHS AD Bob Lawrence. They were NOT this relaxed when the score was tied.

Volleyball Update Notes
Lompoc @ Santa Ynez [Tuesday]

In Tuesday's Varsity loss (25-13, 25-15, 25-14), Erika Slikker had 5 kills, Cameron Lizarraga had 3 kills & 3 blocks, and Jackie Townsend had 2 aces.

The JV and Frosh squads are playing better, according to their coaches. Improved serving and more teamwork have made them more competitive - just not yet to the level of the Pirates. They both fell in straight sets - the JV 25-18, 25-14, and the frosh 25-7, 25-12. The frosh had no missed serves in the first game, a feat which, if repeated, would have made the second game much closer.

Tennis Update Notes

Lompoc JV @ St. Joseph

The girls managed to take 4 points from a tough group of Knights. Gold Vang won the only singles set [6-2] for the Braves, while the doubles won two sets 6-3 and one in a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker. Ashley Branson & Azucena Villalobos won the tiebreaker and another set, and the Serena Zuares / Julissa Abrego combo won the other.

Cabrillo Football Update
JV:
After a promising 17-0 win over Righetti in the opener, their fortunes have turned. Against Dos Pueblos, a 0-0 halftime score was broken by an Amari Dixon TD for a 7-0 lead, but the Chargers rallied with two 4th quarter TD's and won 13-7.

In Game 3, the Conqs trailed St. Joseph 14-0 at halftime, and were down 21-0 before Dixon hit Marco Marrero with two scoring passes. The rally fell short, however, and Cabrillo fell 21-12.
The defense has been led by LB Cameron Stevens, LB Nolan Williams, CB Joseph Fernandez, & DE Jalen Davenport.

Frosh:
Steve Haskins Frosh Phenom's are 3-0 on the season. In their first two games, the opponent scored first, but the Conquistadors prevailed in both contests. They thumped Righetti 28-7, and beat Dos Pueblos 38-21 in an injury plagued game. Cabrillo had several replacements "who had to step in and step up" because of those injuries.

Versus St. Joe their speed and team cohesiveness was put on display as they raced past the Knights for a 21-0 win. QB Jeff Aldridge runs the offense behind pounding FB T.J. Baubude (7 TD's), TB R. J. Flores (2 TD), and Z-back Isaiah (2 TD). MLB Nick Bell, DT Ryan Covell, DE Kean Marsh, and DE Matt Thomas head up the "D".
