The LPL

The "Powers-That-Be" have decided that the LPL is not much of a league this year, although they have, perhaps grudgingly, given Lompoc the #1 Seed. Clearly they regard the Mission League as the best in the Division, sending 5 of 6 teams into the playoffs by awarding them both Wild Card slots.

While almost everyone expected Harvard-Westlake [6-4, 2-3] to take one spot, the surprise was St. Francis taking the other. The Golden Knights [4-6, 1-4], Lompoc's opponent on Friday, got in ahead of Ventura [6-4, 2-2], Buena [5-5, 2-2], Morningside [5-5, 2-3], Channel Islands [4-6, 1-4], and Cabrillo [4-6, 3-3]. One win in Mission League competition evidently being better than three wins in the LPL. "They" might point to Righetti - the Knights won 29-22, while the Conqs were clobbered 55-15.

Morro Bay & Templeton, the LPL #2 and #3 respectively, are both on the road against middling Ocean League opposition that have the same 7-3 records as the SLO county squads. Both would be slated to face top Mission League teams if they advance.

LPL Games
St Francis [Mission AL (#5 1-4, 4-6)] at #1 Lompoc [LPL #1 (6-0, 10-0)]
Templeton [LPL #3 (4-2, 7-3)] at Santa Monica [Ocean #1 (5-0, 7-3)]
Morro Bay [LPL #2 (5-1, 7-3)] at Inglewood [Ocean #2 (4-1, 7-3)]

The PAC-7

In Division III, there are only 4 leagues but 4 Wild Card spots. West Torrance (7-3, 2-3), Antelope Valley (7-3, 4-3) and Paso Robles (6-4, 3-3) were regarded as easy selections, and they were chosen. The tricky part came with the final playoff place, there were three 4-6 teams to consider - Saugus (4-6, 2-3), Knight (4-6, 2-3), and Atascadero (4-6, 2-4). Atascadero got the nod, along with a nice road trip to face the #1 Seed Palmdale. Each of the four Wild Cards get to face one of the four seeded teams in the 1st round.

SLO (6-4, 4-2), the PAC-7 #3, travels to Canyon (Foothill #2, 7-2-1, 4-1), while Arroro Grande (8-2, 5-1) hosts Hart (7-3, 3-2) in what could be the best game on Friday. The Eagles are the defending CIF Champs in D IV and were highly ranked on several occasions this year, while the Hart Indians were ranked #1 for several weeks before losses in their last 2 games dropped them to 3rd in the Foothill League. LPL Champs and #4 Seed St. Joseph (8-2, 5-1), get to host a Wild Card entry. In this case, West (Torrance).

Other than undefeated Palmdale (10-0, 7-0), the best records in the Division are the 8-2 seasons posted by AG and St Joe - 8 of the 16 teams have 7 wins.

PAC-7 Games

West (Torrance) [Bay AL (#4 2-3, 7-3)] at St. Joseph (SM) [PAC-7 #1 (5-1, 8-2)]
Hart [Foothill #3 (3-2, 7-3)] at Arroyo Grande [PAC-7 #2 (5-1, 8-2)]
