Water Polo Semifinals: 6 Teams Enter - 3 Advance

Boys Water Polo

Wednesday, 14 November, SF Round Recaps

[Divs 2 &4 at the William J. Woolet Jr. Aquatic Center [UC Irvine] (Irvine, CA)]
[Div 6 at Mount San Antonio College (Walnut, CA)]

Division 4

 #1 Righetti [PAC-7 #1] 19, #4 Cerritos [San Gabriel Valley #1] 18 [Sudden Death OT]

Righetti - 4,5,1,4,4,1-19
Cerritos- 4,4,2,4,4,0-18

The Warriors lost an OT game to the Dons for 3rd place at the Villa Park Classic tournament back in September; they returned the favor on Wednesday and I'm sure that they would rather have this one. The end came on a Keanu Martinez penaltyshot 1:22 into the Sudden Death Period, moments after Dominick Nevarez was excluded for fouling Will Boerger on a break-away.

In HS Water Polo, if there is a tie after the 4 regulation 7 minute periods, there is a 'regular' OT period in two parts each lasting 3 minutes. The teams changing ends of the pool, halfway through. If still tied, they then start the SD portion, still switching ends periodically, but the 1st goal scored wins.

Warriors [26-6]: Goals - Keanu Martinez 7, Devon Tomooka 4, Travis Knight 4, Will Boerger.  Saves - Nathan Oh 10.
Dons [24-7]: Goals - Ikko Saito 7, Dominick Nevarez 4, Ian Reyes 3, Michael Hanna 2, Angel Alcala 2. Saves - Grant Jimenez 15.

#2 Los Osos [Baseline #1] 13, Arroyo Grande [PAC-7 #2] 5
This was a close contest through 2 and a half quarters. It was tied 2 all at halftime,  and the Eagles even led 4-3 in the middle of the 3rd - then the roof fell in. Los Osos scored 10 consecutive points to reach its 3rd final in the last 5 years. AG was in the semi's for the first time since 2008.

Eagles [22-9]: Goals - Taylor Ross, Hissam el-Effendi, Nick Chapman, David Vitt, Nick Valente. Saves - Chandler Mankins.
Grizzlies: No Information Provided.

Division 2
#2 Santa Barbara [Channel #1] 9, vs. Laguna Beach [Orange Coast #1] 7

Santa Barbara turned a late 1st quarter advantage into a 7-4 halftime lead, then held on for the win.

Dons [22-8]: Saves - Gio Goggia  (3 in last 90 seconds).
Breakers [22-10]: No Information Provided.

Division 6
Both #1 Malibu and #2 Oaks Christian lost on Wednesday.
