2012 CIF Southern Section Divisional Prelims
(Mount SAC course, Walnut, CA)Races, 31 to be precise, were held in 5 size-based divisions on Saturday, 10 November 2012 to determine the teams and individuals moving on the Finals on the 17th. There are 16 teams and several individuals that qualify for each Finals race. The criteria for advancing is dependent on the number of heats (2-4) per division in each gender. Competitors in this competition were selected at various league meets, or by ranking success and then slotted into the appropriate enrollment based division.

NOTE: No teams 'wins' a division at this meet, they finish 1st in their heat and advance to the Finals where the division winners are determined.
Advancement Criteria
Scoring is by place (with standard displacement) of the top 5 runners of each team. Except as noted, ties are broken by the place of the 6th team member.4 Heats: Top 4 Teams in each heat advance. Also any individual racer who finishes in the Top 6 places in a heat and is not a member of one of the Top 4 teams in that heat.
3 Heats: Top 5 Teams in each heat, plus the 6th place finisher with the best overall team time. Also any individual racer who finishes in the Top 8 places in a heat and is not a member of one of the Top 5 teams in that heat.
2 Heats: Top 8 Teams in each heat. Also any individual racer who finishes in the Top 12 places in a heat and is not a member of one of the Top 8 teams in that heat.

Division Information (Area Participants)
No one from Lompoc or Cabrillo advanced. From the LPL, the Santa Ynez boys, Morro Bay boys, and Templeton girls advanced. Alex Hascal (Nipomo), and Kyra Meko (Nipomo) both qualified as individuals. PAC-7 teams moving on were the Arroyo Grande boys, Righetti boys, Paso Robles boys, SLO girls, St. Joseph boys, St. Joseph girls.Individual Qualifiers included - Jocelyn Reynolds (Arroyo Grande), Addi Zerrener (DP), Josh Ernst (SLO), and Nick Murillo (Orcutt Academy).
Most of the LPL are in Divs 3 & 4, with many PA
PAC-7 schools in Divs 2 & 3. The Channel League is predominately in Divs 1 & 2. Almost all of the small/private schools from the area are in Divs 4 & 5.
The Div 2 Boys final should be interesting, with Righetti, Arroyo Grande, Dos Pueblos, and Westlake among the 16 competitors.

Simi's Gals, led by National Record Holder Sarah Baxter, took the top 5 spots in the race. Their # 6 & 7 runners finished in 9th and 13th places respectively. There are 2 juniors, including Baxter, 4 sophomores, and only one senior, who finished 13th, on the varsity seven.
