Ben Ornelas Swings Big Bat

Remember Lompoc High third baseman Ben Ornelas? Corban College sure does.

SALEM, Ore. – Warrior outfielder Ben Ornelas drove in seven runs as the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team smashed three home runs and 14 hits to earn a 10-run-rule 16-0 win in seven innings against Corban College on Friday. The win completes a three-game sweep of Corban, and caps off a very successful week for the Warriors during which they went 5-0 and outscored their opponents 54-7.

Ornelas, who entered Friday’s game with four RBI to his name, was 4-for-5 on the day with three runs, a home run, and a double. After Friday’s result, Lewis-Clark State now holds a record of 16-6 while Corban is 9-18.

In the first inning, Ornelas scored two with a single to center field as LCSC sent nine batters to the plate. Then in the sixth LCSC plated four more runs, three of which came home via Ornelas’ homer to right field.

Ornelas, who played two seasons at Cypress College and was named all-league both seasons was just 4-for-13 entering today's contest. He had played in just four contests. Now he is 8-for-18 for a .444 average.
