2009 Easter Relays
{3/28/2009 @ Santa Barbara City College}

Squads from Cabrillo, Santa Ynez & St Joe's of the LPL took on the big boys while participating in the Easter Relays at SBCC on Saturday. The results in general were not spectacular - but there were some bright spots. Boys/Girls Competions were held at the Varsity and Frosh/Soph levels.

Cabrillo: The best performer for the Conqs was senior Kendall Reynolds who won the Girls Varsity Long Jump (17-11.00) and was second in the 100 m Hurdles (16.1). The boys 4 x 800 relay units were third at both levels, and so were the Distance Medley teams. Senior Rebeccah Rogers was 3rd in the 100m Dash, as was sophomore Jordan Watson.

St Joseph / Santa Ynez: Both schools had several top 3 finishes, with the Knights especially strong in the field events, where Teresa Loya won both the Varsity Shot Put (42-1.50) & Discus (124-05) contests and Tim Puerling won the F/S Pole Vault (10-00.00).

Cabrillo JV Tournament
First / Second Rounds - Saturday, 28 March 2009
Cabrillo opened its own tourney by facing a beleaguered Santa Maria squad that had not enjoyed its trip to the Lompoc Valley the day before. They didn't enjoy this one much either - the Conquistadors racked up only two fewer runs than the Braves had on Friday, outcoring the Saints 23-0. Kaylie Chard went the distance for Cabrillo.

Next up for the host team was Righetti, coming off a 1st round defeat of Lompoc. Nathalia Powell battled the Warriors' Melissa Balam to a tie in regulation, resulting in an International Tie-breaker. Stacy Harmon dropped a bunt that moved the runner to third. Powell then stepped to the plate and her game winning hit delivered the 2-1 victory. The Braves got to face Santa Maria again in round 2, and won.

In the lower bracket, Templeton tossed Santa Barbara 12-1, and Paso Robles shut out Carpinteria 7-0. Round 2 saw Carp thump the Dons 12-3, while Paso squeased past the Eagles 5-3.

Chris Mallory had four hits, including a double and Corey Dotzler went 3-5, with a double and 3 RBI's to help #13 Allan Hancock College [17-11, 10-4 WSC North] win its third straight game - a 19-11 non-pitchers duel over #20 Ventura [13-9, 7-7 WSC]. Tuesday, they take on first-place Cuesta at 2:30 p.m.
