Lompoc-Santa Maria, Cabrillo - Santa Ynez

Lompoc's Kyle Pickles quickly checks the adjacent lane 4 to see if he had won the varsity boys 100 yard Breaststroke on Friday. He had won, touching out the Saints Nestor Nunez by about 8 tenths of a second.

The Braves used a 9 run sixth to push this one to the 'mercy rule'. Jeana Carrillo scattered seven hits and one walk, and had 9 strike-outs - two coming with two runners on base and two out in the inning. It was her second shutout of the week, following a 7-0 blanking of Santa Ynez on Tuesday.
Offensively, the Braves pounded out 16 hits, including 5 for extra bases.
Junior Varsity:
The temperature on the new sign at LHS read 60 degrees, but the Lompoc JV squad's bats had the place much hotter. The Brave blasted the visiting Saints off the field 25-0 in a game called after 4 innings.
Sarah Mitchell and Katie Berryman each threw two innings, combining for 5 strike-outs, and allowing 3 hits and two walks.
Five players doubled - Pauley, Berryman (who also tripled), Luna, Lujano, and Tuomi. Luna went 4-4, Taylor was 3-3 (all singles), and three players were 3-4 - Pauley (plus a walk), Berryman, and Oatis.
Cabrillo 12 @ Santa Ynez 1 [5 Innings]
The Black Terror continued its rampage through the local softball scene as Kiley Shae Aldridge allowed three hits in 5 innings, and Lindsie Holloway belted a fifth stanza homer with a runner on for two of her 4 RBI's.
Adrianna Segura and Alex Pino both included a triple in their 2 hit, 2 RBI performances. The lone Pirate run came in the 3rd on a bases-loaded walk to Gillian Michaud.
The Cabrillo JV Tournament begins at 9 am on Saturday (28 March).

The Conquistadors did what they needed to do to win, aided immeasurably by a David Mertz three-run shot in the third.

Cabrillo Coach Buck Sharp was caught in a squeeze. He has four pitchers he relies on - Daniel Salcido had thrown 5 innings on Tuesday, and two were out sick. He started Jesus Barraza, who pitched well, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) through five. The problems came as he began to tire in the sixth inning.
Tied at 3 runs apiece, the Pirates collected a pair of runs on 3 of their 10 hits to take the lead. But Cabrillo came back in the bottom half to tie the game back up. So he faced a decision, does he bring in Salcido from the bench, bring in somebody new, or try and wring one more inning out of Barraza ? He went with #3.
The 1st batter flied out to the second baseman, about 20 feet out on the grass, and batter #2 quickly was down in the count 0-2. After a ball, however Mr. Jensen lined a ball over the head of Jeffrey Aldridge in center-field for a double.
The third batter then took a strike, before drilling a tricky grounder to the shortstop, who 'snow-coned' it. The runner held, but the throw to first base was in the dirt and wide. One run scored, and the runner remained at first.
So Santa Ynez starter Fillipe Gonzales, who went 4 innings, strode to the plate, looked at two balls, then fouled one straight back to the screen. He timed the next Barraza offering better, lifting it over the 355' sign in right-center for an 8-5 lead.
Barrazza walked to next two and was replaced by Salcido. One more run scored, before out number three was recorded. Cabrillo sent 6 batters to the plate in their half, but only scored 1 run, falling 9-6.
Lompoc 10, @ Santa Maria 0
Ryan Bower went seven, allowing 7 hits, and had 2 RBI - both on walks with the bases full. Dalton Rouleau scored three runs with two hits, while Daniel Mallory and Cody Berryman had 2 RBI each.
Lompoc 15, Santa Maria 3 Junior Varsity
The Braves scored 9 in the first inning and never looked back. They used 4 pitchers in the 6 innings, and only surrendered runs in the last two. David Barber and Dalton Chambers had triples.
@ St Joseph 8, Templeton 0
Jordan Sechler had a 14 strikeout, 1-hitter. Luke Reccord had 3 hits, including a double, to keep the Eagles winless (0-7) on the season. With the offense stifled, the Eagles defense didn't help starter Ricky Horn much either, committing 4 errors.
